and by the way so many people exaggerate about what actually takes place during a skiptracing call.. please. its not rude .. .if ur a reference, get mad at who put u down everywhere and then decided to default on their obligations. . if ur a same name or wrong number..  get over urself .. especially if ur number is a published one.. if u dont want someone to call keep it private... and if u owe the debt.. then listen to what they can help u with.. student loan rehabilitation program.. gives u a new start without wage garnishment. ull be glad u answered instead of getting a  smaller check one pay day.. and it does happen..just like that. toodles

yes it does happen just like that....

they called a friend of my boyfirends saying that they had a job offer for him and that my bf had put him down as a reference.  When my bf called back and they informed him that they were really a collections agency.  His loan was bought out from Sallie Mae.  NO ONE told him of the switch.  He was then treatened w/ wage garnishments and tax w/holding if he did not set up a payment plan right then and had til the end of the month to make a first payment that was an outregeous amount (which the end of the month was less then two weeks away).  When he asked why this is the first time he is hearing about it and if they had tried to reash him so many times before this to inform him of the switch like they claimed they did why couldnt any one account for that.  All that was said was they didnt have a record of when exactly those calls were made nor they couldnt explain why if this was so urgent a message was never left, and they couldnt recall where the letters were sent or when.... BULL!!!!  It was and is nothing more then intimidation!  There was no need for the rudeness and humiliation exprienced at the hands of this compnay.  He would have been making payments on this loan if someone in the first place had advised him that he even had to be paying this company and not Sallie Mae who still owns part of the loan.  Now they are treating him like some deliquent that cant be trusted b/c of THIER mistakes!  We have gone out of the way to try to fufill their requests as to avoid the wage garnishment however they are unbending and only want their money they are not intresested in trying to work something out with you so that you can actually make the payments that you need to

They are rude, nasty, and shifty they speak down to you for no reason even when you are trying to do as they ask. they would get a better responce if they learned how to treat people w/ respect not everyone they get in touch with is a deliquent that defaults on loans

It has left us w/ a sour taste in our mouth and really makes needing to contact them in the future an unplesant thought

I agree!! When it comes down to it if you would pay your bills and grow up you would not be getting these calls! You took advantage of an education now it is time to pay for it whether you are using it or working at Burger King! Calling references, neighbors, same names etc is not illegal. If it is a wrong# just say so, end of story. You all make it sound like they asked to take your 1st born or something. It is just a freakin phone, it can't bite you! But your past due student loan can. Deal with it and pay it!! If someone used you as a reference give up their info, they gave up yours.

Wrong numbers is one thing but calling the wrong number over and over again is why collection agencies get nothing! These collection agencies just don't get it that even they can be solved in a VT like manner for harassing the wrong people repeatedly. Don't be surprised when in the news the CEOs of these agencies ends up missing. And found in the ground months latter.

collection agencies better watch out who they bother! they do not understand when told that they called the wrong number but repeatedly calling this wrong number might earn them a shotgun blast to their faces!

it seems that violence is the only language they will ever understand!

remember if a case like this ever happens and you are on the jury give a not guilty for reasons of insanity brought on by the relentless calls of harassment from the collection agency to the "wrong number"

Just got a call from them for my husband's late grandmother, who has been gone for at least 9 years, possibly more (I'm not sure of the exact date she died, I wasn't married to my husband then). I knew something was fishy. We're working with the state to settle her Medicare account, they already have a lien on her house which will be paid off as soon as the house sells. I have no idea what other accounts they could possibly be looking for, and why they didn't know she was deceased. When I asked the woman on the phone, she refused to give me any info.  I took a call back number, but needless to say, after reading this information, my husband isn't about to call them back.

I certainly hope we aren't in for a multitude of phone calls. It will not be pleasant for anyone else who calls from that company.

This guy called looking for a neighbor he believes I might know. Why in the heck do these people think anyone would give information about a neighbor over the phone. Especially when they refuse to identify themselves.

Is this illegal?

It is even worse. they called my number looking for someone that a) is not me, 2) not a relative. They told me that he had the same last name and was wanting to know if I knew him. I figured it was a collection agency and when pressed the jerk hung up.

I work for a financial institution and would hope my employer would not hire a deadbeat company to go crawling through records of people with the same last name looking for one of their deadbeats.

541-956-8822 Called me at work (I am a self employed carpenter) and the rude lady didn't care that I was on scaffolding while she threatened wage garnishment for a small outstanding school loan from 20 years ago. I couldn't stop laughing.   Mind you, the people on the phones make commissions ($) for any debt collected.

Well, I just got a phone call from that number. (On my home phone..which is a vonage number) When I called it back to see who it was, a woman answered, didnt say the name of the company (my caller id says DCS) but said when i said "someone called me?" SHe replied with "oh thats Melissa" and forwarded me to a voice mail. The voice mail, get this...said Please leave your name, SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER associated with your account, and phone number.  Their message from me was plain and simple, "You MUST be stupid if you think I'm going to leave my SSN on your answering machine. Hell Im not even leaving my name.  I did give them the number they called so they could call me back.  I cant wait to speak to these people, Im not a very nice person when it comes to harassment over the phone.  LOL

it's obvious this person, whos is too lazy to type out the word "you", works for a collections agency. i wouldn't put it past them to be working for THIS particular company that we're all complaining about.

They called claiming I owe money, which is fine because I can just ignore them. But they had the nerve to call one of my friends who had just gotten out of the hospital asking him if he could lend me money to pay off the debt! Now what kind of crap is that? They didn't bother me until they did that. It's going way too far! Don't these people have any morals?
