The caller told me I downloaded 5 dangerous files and my computer will be blocked. It looks like a scam. Beware!

Whoever they were called me at 11:30pm CST.  I didn't answer the phone, because I don't answer unfamiliar numbers. The number had a 4 in front of it instead of 1.

I received a call from this number saying my computer is sending error messages. My computer is off. The caller said the PLSI was allowing the messages to come through. I tried calling the number back but the call wouldn't go through. I have never had Microsoft call and say this. I usually don't answer unfamiliar numbers but I have a son in the military so I answer all calls. This person wants to call me back at 7:30 tonight. Think I'll ignore the call this time.

I received a call from 4 557 446 8348. The caller told me I downloaded he is from Microsoft and my computer is infected.  It is a scam.

A man called me from 4-557-446-8348. This person identified himself as "Shane Watson" and he too claimed to be from Microsoft and told me I had to purchase a New Registration ($250) for my computer because it had viruses. And I have only had my new pc for 2 weeks so I knew it was a scam!! PLEASE DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR INFO PEOPLE. MICROSOFT WILL NEVER CALL YOU. I also reported him to Microsoft and the BBB.

It is really hard to believe that there are people falling for the lies that these filthy scammer-thieves are telling them.
I wish the  News media would become more involved since they are so big at beating their own drums at how great and informative they are with their constant self adoration and advertisement.  If the local TV and newspapers would just come to 800 notes and do some homework,  they could save a log of hard working Americans from financial hardship simply by doing informative stories about how the scammers are working.
Fighting scammers through mass media education would probably be the most effective weapon in shutting them down by reducing their profits.  Lord knows this government of ours isn't going to do anything for the little guys.

Called, no message....

Has to be a scam.

There was no message, they just hang up when I answer. They call back to back so I just hit the answer button and the hang-up button immediately.  They wait about a week and call back again.

I rec'd a call today from 4-557-446-8348 and a male with an Asian accent told me he was with Microsoft ... he started by asking me how I was today ... I told him that I was fine, but was not going to talk to him.

I've rec'd a call exactly like this at least twice before. It's a SCAM!

NEVER-EVER give any information to anyone claiming to call from a company like Microsoft who will NEVER call you like this! If you receive a call from a business that you suspect may be "official" always ask for their employee ID# and their call back number and tell them you will verify their information and call them back.

Called and told me I had dangerous files on my computer.  I told him he was and idiot and hung up.  I blocked his number.  That is the 2nd time they called today.  I  will be moving soon so this number will be disconnected.

Picked up call and this guy started in on the Microsoft calling gaff, and I told him to not call me, and he said "pardon?"  and I said, "Do Not Call Me!"   He told me to, "Die Mother F**ker!" and hung up.  I had it on speaker phone, and my friends and I had a really big laugh.  At least it turned out to be entertaining.  I get these calls from "Microsoft"  all the time.  Who do they think they are fooling!  haha

Just got my second on from the same number - in very heavy Chinese/English, he said he was calling about a computer. I asked him what number he dialed and he read my number back. I told him I don't have a computer and hung up!!!

Hang up nuisance call.

Called at 10:45 pm.  Non American accent and I just hung up.

It is 10:50 pm and I just fell asleep and they called I answered and an automated voice said goodbye I thought it was odd so I called back and it said that it wasn't a working number  u silly goober I have a 3 day old baby thank you for waking all of us up

Called at 11:57 PM right before midnight. I'm about to take out my home phone.

The call came in last night at about 9:30pm.  I did not answer it because I did not recognize the number.  I checked the number and sure enough, it appears to be one of "those" calls.  They are getting more frequent and more annoying - and more persistent.  I do not enjoy being leary of answering my own phone!  If these numbers have been identified as scammers, why can't they be blocked or terminated?

I helped two friend set up their new computers.  When I was telling them all the things they would need to know in the future, I discovered the hard way (hard for them!) that I had forgotten to warn them about this kind of scam, so they thought the calls were legitimate and gave the callers permission to access their computers.  One of them had her computer completely trashed by the scammer, who gloated "watch what's happening on your screen!" just before she hung up on them.  Fortunately she had backups, but she had to restore *everything*.

I got such a call just now, made sure my computer was turned off, and strung the guy along for as long as I could.  He even turned me over to his "supervisor", whom I strung along for a little while before he finally hung up.  I figured that the time I wasted making him waste his time was time he couldn't spend trashing someone else's computer or stealing someone else's secrets.

What I don't understand is that, unlike automated e-mail scams, which reach millions of people at once, this has to be done one-on-one.  Do they really succeed (get your password, credit card numbers, whatever) often enough to make it worthwhile?

Scammer.  Type of scam:  "I'm from Blah-Blah company.  We've discovered a virus on your computer.  If you give us access to your computer, we'll remove it for you."  After which they steal your passwords or your credit card number, or infect your computer with a real virus, or something similar.
