got a response from Tim Petrillo.

He is a sarcastic jerk, but he will take you off their call list.

These people think it is their constitutional right to call anyone they want.

I received a call from the California Police activities league as I am an active giver.  Cal Pal saved my Childs life, we live in a gang populated area that's has a lot of drugs in it. Pal gave my child an opportunity to stay away from gangs and drugs, by giving them something to do.  Whether it's playing sport, recreational activities, or education Pal is saving lives daily.  Cal Pal is directly responsible for helping over 300,00 thousand kids last year alone.  I haven't ever had any problem with them what so ever... If you want to be added to the Don Not Call list, even though legally they don't have to, they will.  I think that receiving a couple of phone calls doesn't give anyone the right to talk badly about the largest and older juvenal prevention program in the entire state of California.

Instead of sitting their behind a computer complaining, get out there and help your community

Find out for your self www.CalPal.org save a child or volunteer your time...

California PAL is the greatest youth program in California!  Thanks to all the hard work from Police Officers and volunteers, our children have a better chance of using text books to study and not using drugs and guns.  It truly is worthwhile to donate... as every community needs a PAL.

These people keep calling me on my cell phone, which is costing me money.  They are violating federal law by calling cell phone numbers.  I don't care who they are or what they do.  They do not have my permission, or the legal right, to call my cell phone.  I can't imagine giving money to any organization which does that.  If you want to give them your money, that's up to you, but I want them to stop calling me NOW!

And rather than just complain as I "sit behind my computer" (actually, I'm in front of the computer, not behind it), I called their office and demanded they stop calling me!  I  don't give money to telephone solicitors; I don't care who they are.

Reached this Tim Petrillo guy.  He was really rude.  Just hope these people don't call back.  The calls are disturbing my family.

btw, if you work for these people, or get funded by them, please disclose this so any conflict of interest is clear.  I have gotten too many calls from these guys, and don't want them to call again.

Well, for your sake, I hope your "disturbed" family doesn't include children. With an attitude like yours, you had better hope to never need any assitance where your children are concerned. But judging from your response, you and your family are probably self proclaimed perfectionists and won't need help. I find it funny that people hesitate to give to their community unless it directly serves as an advantage to them or until they actually have kids. Being involved in ones community is an ongoing thing, not just when convenient for you. You can't expect the community to be perfect and generous only when you decide to have kids, or your kids can profit from what the community has to offer and then decide to take advantage of those who DO donate!!! Life is not about ME, MYSELF, and I. Don't expect it to conveniently be there when YOU are ready for it and NEED it, then act like it's a thorn in your side when you don't.
Remember, the community you live in reperesents who you and your family are and where you live. I'd be more than happy to help in any way I can to benefit it so that it can serve me and others to the fullest if I were you.
Here's another more productive thought too...
Ask them to not call you. They also send out mailers and you have the choice to donate or not. Or you can just throw the mailer away. Unless, of course, that is too disturbing too?
I have a funny feeling it has nothing to do with the calls, but your guilty feeling about having to tell someone NO you do not want to donate. So what if you can't. Tell them no, or that you'd like to but can't at this time, and to try asking again next year. They understand. They are human beings with budgets too. Get over yourself already and don't be such a damned coward.
This respose goes to the other individual complaining, sitting at their computer. I don't care if you are sitting ON your computer. Do something more productive already.

I'm getting calls on my cell, too, and I'm getting fed up.  Who are these people anyway?  I just wish they would stop calling us!  Doesn't the DNC list mean anything???????

    Please no name calling.

People can choose to donate or not, as they wish.  If someone chooses to not be disturbed by phone calls, that is their free choice.  Sometimes people work night shifts, and need to sleep undisturbed during the day or evening, and a ringing phone is a major disturbance for them.

Please all be respectful of others.  If you choose to donate to this organization, that's fine, but please respect those who don't wish to be disturbed.

If you work a night shift and don't want to be disturbed, then unplug your phone.  I doubt that the people who work in the fundraising call center who ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THEIR COMMUNITY are psychic and know what hours you work.  Show some respect and if you ask nicely, you can be taken off the list.  I am so surprised at you people for blowing up over a phone call that helps children!  These kids are our future.  I really think Cal PAL should extend the age limit so some of these outrageous people can join and grow up a little.

For everyone who actually cares about these kid's future, donate.  Even if its $10... its tax deductable, so you get it back anyways, and its really going a long way.

Look, your rage is your own.  Keep it to yourself.

Everyone has a right to peace and quiet in their own home, free from ringing phones.  For someone who is physically handicapped, as I am, unplugging the phone or turning off the ringer is not a simple option.

Not everyone wants to contribute to this organization (I know you don't understand why, but that's not your business), and they have a right be be left in peace.

Please direct your anger in a more productive manner and stop calling people silly names.  Thanks very much.

California Police Activites League, while local PAL orginizations may be worthwhile, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THESE BUMS! see http://www.charitynavigator.org to learn they spend over 65% of their donations on further funds rasing, and less than 30% on program activites.

Gregg Wilson, executive director of PAL, got $103,416 in 2005.  His salary alone accounted for 1.47% of the organization's expenses.  That is $103,416 that should have been going for charitable purposes, NOT for administrative expenses.  He should have been paid less than half as much.  66.7% of PAL's revenues go for fundraising.  That's too much.  This organization is bloated and inefficient.

Actually guys, most Charities/Telemarketing splits result in the Telemarketing people keeping 85% and the charity getting 15% So if what your saying is true and 35% is going that means they did 3 times better then your average cause… Something to think about… These numbers are taken out of context.
