I received a message from this number on my work voicemail today.  Also from 561-638-2008.  It seems to be a scam selling directory ad space to businesses.  The directories are purported to be for the local and surrounding country clubs.  I called my local country club to verify when I first received the message and they said that they had no such project.  Last month I had a call from "Randy" and when I asked him for a sample golf magazine that he proposed I purchase an ad for, he was obviously peeved and tried to get me to go to a website to see it instead. He said he would send me the link.  I said I would be happy to look at the online content but that if I was to consider an ad that I needed to see a sample.  Guess what?  He never sent me the link or the paper copy.  What a surprise!  A year's ad for $300?  Hmmmm...
A friend of mine who is a muscular therapist received a similar call a few months back and was similarly suspicious.

Anyone else out there getting these calls?  Anyone gotten duped?

received a call a few days ago from someone identifying themselves as Gary Daniels...wanted me to advertise is a golf club magazine...called local country club and they said never heard of t hese people.  TODAY, my secretary answered the phone and Gary asked for the owner of the business.  She advised I was not available.  When asked what this was regarding, Gary replied, "The Oakfield Country Club".  Nothing like that in this area...likely a scam

I received 2 calls mar. 22, 2011,@10:59 a.m. next call following immediately, message left on voicemail stating my mother gave him my number, (said a name of my sisters sister-in-law I knew then that was her way of letting me know it is a hoax) my mother passed in 1985, also he was in the area at a country club, never knew one in my area by that name, there are three and one of them is bankrupt, so he bombed three times, they should do some research before they make such statements. I am in PA. but we get a lot of calls from Florida.

My company was solicited by Platinum Publishing of Delray. 561-637-4700.  My business is located in Wilmington, NC. After listening to what sounded like a great advertising opportunity to be listed in a publication that would be distributed at four local golf country clubs, I had a few concerns. As I was on the phone with the sales representative I searched for reviews on this company. After reading the reviews below and seeing a trend in the fact that the country clubs were not using Platinum Publications for any type of material I read those reviews aloud to the sales representative. He said the same as the rebuttals below. I am a member of one of the country clubs he listed. I asked him to give me the contact information for who I would speak with at the country club to confirm. He was not very happy, though he did say he would 'walk down the hall' to the department that would handle that. He called my office within 5 minutes and apologized that he could not give me that information. I told him that my company was not interested and unfortunately had to hang up on him. I called one of the four country clubs and spoke with the marketing director. Her words were as follows "We are not supplying our members with that publication (from Platinum Publishing). We have been bugged before by this group."

I got a call from them this morning. They hung up after they realized I had nothing to offer them. So I gave them a call. When Mike answered I said, "Hi. I just got a call from you guys so I went online and saw what a bunch of skumbags you guys are." He hung up immediately. HAHA

I received the same kind of message from this number today in S. California.  After reading Jean's post, I remembered other directory marketing schemes like this.  I've been in business awhile and have learned that if somebody's trying to scam me, they've tried it with others.  Hence, just enter the number in a search engine and read the praises.  Plus I golf and know every country club around here.  Whatever the one was that they mumbled about, it's not located around here.  The nuisance calls are already at 5 or 6 a day.  F'em.  Not going to give anyone yet another reason to add me to another "They actually returned the call" list.

I too received phone call from "Debbie Carpenter" supposedly working with the Portland (ME) Country Club and wanted to run something by me. The # she gave was 561-637-4704, however she was calling on 561-637-4700.  I will be reporting to the country club as well as the BBB as a scam.

I certainly didn't get "dupped". I actually had a good experience with this company. Sure the calls can get annoying but that is no reason to say they are a scam.  I advertised my landscaping company in their directories for a few of the local country clubs here and receive quite a bit of calls from it. They sent me a few books after they were finished and you can even see a sample of their publication at their website which is platinumpublisher.com

Jefferson Banks sold me an ad in San Deigo, it was well done and just came out in September. I actually went to the club and they had it here. Maybe they should stick to calling business like myself that are on the up and up and not little start up businesses!

this business is a scam,  moved from Clearwater, Fl to Delray Beach when the BBB caught up.  They were rated an F.  Has nothing to do with the Golf Courses or Country Clubs.  Complete scam!

You actually have no idea what you are talking about. We are not a scam. Our main office is based out of Bensalem, PA. Our company has never been located in Clearwater, FL. We have absolutely no relation, whatsoever, to Platinum Publishing of Clearwater.

    Get your facts straight.

They called me severasl times today asking for an estimate for a project at a local private country club in Omaha Ne.  I returned the call only to be solicited myself to place an expensive ad that the golf course had no clue about. Phone plugging, soliciting, nuisance scam.  DO not answer!  Not worth the time to tell them to jump off of a bridge.

Just got a voice mail from Jeff F???? (spoke too fast)  Call regarding a local Country Club, but did not pronounce the Club's name correctly.  Caller ID displayed  Platinum Publis.  Message requested I call back a Florida number.  I checked their BBB rating.    B- , not accredited,  12 claims in the past year.  I called the Club,  no one knew anything about it.   The Club  handles their own advertisiing and does not subcontract.

Just imagine if these people would use their energy for positive things.  All the world's problems could be solved!
