Some of the comments on here are just ridicules. One lady couldn't find the attorney name when she searched it, so automatically its a scam. How about going onto the Florida Bar website and checking the attorney out. That's what I did and Karen Grun is a licensed attorney. I had the same skeptical thoughts that most of you did, but I also realize that with all these scams that are going around, theirs also companies that are getting these modification's done and working with an actual attorney is the best way to go.
I was contacted by Housing Assistance and went down a quick application with them so that I can see what they had to offer me. They said that they could get me out of my 7.75 adjustable rate and reduce my payment by $350 a month. I was happy with what they were offering me, but they were asking for $3000 up front for the attorney retainer fee. This was the part that made me hesitant. I told them that I wanted to do more research and that I would get back to them and that's what I did. I saw that the attorney is a licensed attorney with the Florida Bar, I reviewed the paperwork with my own privet attorney (who is married to my daughter) and he told me that everything look legit but to be careful because of what's going on in the news. In the end I realized that if I was going to do this I had to trust the company or not do it at all and that's what I did. I sent them the paperwork, and retainer fee and then got a call from a paralegal for some more paperwork. Once I got everything to them it took them exactly 41 days to get it done. Now I have a rate of 3.75% fixed which is lower then what they quoted me and I got my new mortgage statement last month.
It made me realize that all this s**t we watch on the news is just fear mongering created by the banks so that people won't take advantage of these programs. I'm sure that their are companies out their that are ripping people off but you can always report them to the attorney general and they will get shut down. No attorney is going to risk losing their licensing for $3000, I believe that and that's why I chose to work with an attorney rather then some mod group. Go threw the process and if you do fall victim to a scam then report it to the states attorney general, they have Task Forces to stop those type of companies and get your money back.
Did you go through Housing Assistance Law Center P.A., Karen Grun, Attorney. I have been contacted and asked for $2500.00. I am afraid but would really like to do it.
I have been contacted by Housing Assistance Law Center and being skeptical was directed to Better Business Bureau and even given a written guarantee of a adequate loan modification or my money back. But I can't get in touch with them now that my check has cleared.
MITCH - YOU NEED A NEW privet LAWYER! One that knows that any loan company that collects a fee before providing you with any services is not legal..
from federal trade commission website
Red Flags If you’re looking for foreclosure prevention help, avoid any business that:
guarantees to stop the foreclosure process – no matter what your circumstances instructs you not to contact your lender, lawyer, or credit or housing counselor collects a fee before providing you with any services accepts payment only by cashier’s check or wire transfer encourages you to lease your home so you can buy it back over time tells you to make your mortgage payments directly to it, rather than your lender tells you to transfer your property deed or title to it offers to buy your house for cash at a fixed price that is not set by the housing market at the time of sale offers to fill out paperwork for you pressures you to sign paperwork you haven’t had a chance to read thoroughly or that you don’t understand. If you’re having trouble paying your mortgage or you have gotten a foreclosure notice, contact your lender immediately.

Mitch H - You are a LIAR. You can't possibly have a son-in-law who is a lawyer. Because if you did he would have told you not to sign those bogus papers. I am not a lawyer and anyone with half a brain could tell they're crap. If your privet(private)lawyer son-in-law really is one thenn he should be disbarred because he is an idiot. Don't bring innocent people into this. Wait, maybe he is a crook too. I know for damn sure you are. You probably work for these guys.
Even if you are satisfied, go ahead and report them and not only will you have your loan modified, you will have your fee returned to you. Attorneys can't use auto dialers. If FHA All Day is partnering with an attorney, and fees are split, the attorney has committed misconduct. I doubt Ms. Grun got her clients on her own. Being fed clients through one of these loan mod companies is a no-no and the AG has been cracking down hard. Do yourself a favor and go to your bank by yourself first before you even think about going with one of these scam ops. I met Jason Vitulano and, well, I wouldn't give the guy so much as pcoket change if I were you. Anyone that has the poster for "Boiler Room" hanging on the wall inhis office is a guy I wouldn't want to do business with. As far as Barry Hall is concerned, he isn't admitted to practice law in Florida but he conducts his business down here. Caveat Emptor!!!
I can belive you are judging someone by a poster hanging in thier office. sounds like you need help. if the company does what they say there going to do, which is help people. Why??? shouldnt they be able to do so??? it is people like you that fu-k up this world with your comments and complaints get a job you bum!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you have your mortgage successfully modified? I sent them $2,800 and now can't reach them via phone, email or fax. I even got a written guarantee from the Manager, Neil Sax. But doesn't do any good if you can't reach them
After Housing Assist. Law Center (Karen Grun) received several thousand dollars up-front, their phones went dead the end of July. We drove to the Deerfield office. They had packed and gone the week before. We read in the news where a judge issued orders barring her and her chronies from operating this type of business. No doubt about it--Karen Grun is a person to avoid doing business with. If you were taken in by her, you sould file complaints with FL Attorney General, FL Bar, and BBB. She is scum, and so is Adam Jenson, her Manager who promised the moon.
Thank you for the info...I was trying to get a hold of some friends down their to check out the address...you saved me the headache...however the facts you stated is not what I wanted to hear (ideally)! If you find out if there's anything we can do to recover our money, please post it.
