Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

If this is Steve Martin, I am Mother Teresa.

This "Steve Martin" is the same cockroach scammer who called himself "Dennis Grey" (or "Dennis Grace") when he left several identical pre-recorded voicemails on my phone just before tax time in April 2015.  Then, he used this number:  843 561 4781.  Yesterday, he left three identical pre-recorded voicemails on my phone - but this time, he used this number:  567 242 0578

Both times, the cockroach's voicemail was almost identical.  The script goes, as follows:

"Dennis" / "Steve said he was calling in regards to an "enforcement action executed by the U.S. Treasury" and that if I ignore his threats, I could find myself "appearing in front of a magistrate judge or a federal jury for a federal criminal offense.  I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you.  Thank you.

    Same old horsesh*t.

Dennis Grey (or Grace) and Steve Martin are one and the same individual.  He has a suspiciously Indian-sounding accent for someone who supposedly has such American names.

Pro tip:  If you're going to pass yourself off as an American when you clearly are not, hire an accent reduction coach.  "Dennis" / "Steve", you need one.

For many reasons, I am appalled to receive repeated voicemails from this cockroach.  That he makes repeated calls using various aliases and various phone numbers over the course of several months tells me that somebody is giving him money.  So wrong.

Any chance this "Dennis" / "Steve" guy is in the stripy hole?  Do prisons allow these kinds of outgoing phone calls?

    There is that possibility...

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A correction officer and an inmate in Georgia targeted Bergen County residents in a phone scam, convincing them they needed to pay fines for missing jury duty or having an outstanding arrest warrant, police said.

Starting in March, a person claiming in several incidents to be a Bergen County Sheriff’s Office official began calling residents, telling them they would be arrested unless they provided their credit card number or loaded money from their accounts onto a prepaid debit card.

“Victims were being told that they had to pay a fine for missing jury duty,” said Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino. “Individuals making the fraudulent calls were using a prepaid phone… with a 201 area code to make it seem like the call was coming from Bergen County.”

Saudino said some of the victims reported receiving a call from a “major” in his office — a title that does not exist there, 1010 WINS’ Sonia Rincon reported.

“The runners would take a portion of the proceeds for themselves, and transfer the rest of the balance to the inmate’s commissary account,” Saudino explained.

That commissary account is what inmates use to buy items such as toothpaste and potato chips. Saudino said investigators found one inmate’s account with $300,000 in it.

At least one person in Hackensack was duped into forking over $1,000, Saudino said.
Police arrested Clarinda Carter, a corrections officer at Wheeler State Prison in Alamo, Georgia, and Covian Camp, an inmate at Autry State Prison near Pelham, Georgia. They are both charged with theft by extortion and impersonating an officer.

“These two suspects initially met at this private correctional facility, where Calinda Carter worked, and developed a relationship together,” Saudino said.

Officials said a cellphone was found in Camp’s cellblock.

The sheriff believes more arrests will follow. Meanwhile, officials from 11 other states are lining up to charge Carter and Camp, too, Rincon reported.

“Even if they identify themselves as a police officer, don’t give any money over the phone,” Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said to Gainer.

Scam.  Received a call from "Steve Martin" via the US Treasury.  Indian accent.  I harassed them to the point where *my* number has been blocked.  My suggestion.  Go to one of the below-referenced websites, and start reading the most appropriate words.

    Caveat Emptor
Received 2 and a half recordings from this number this morning. When my answering machine picked up, it was in mid-script! Then that lengthy script (see earlier comment for details) was recorded twice! So I called back and asked for "Steve Martin." I called on my headset with the handset still on, so the first words when "his supervisor" got on the phone were "are you on a speaker phone?" I truthfully said "no". He went on to give me his "Federal Employment Number":22508. And I [politely] pretended I was looking it up in a database. He got really annoyed and asked me if I was aware there was a warrant out for my arrest. I told him I couldn't find his number, please give me his CI number (since he said this was a criminal IRS issue). He kept asking, "C...I... number?" Then I started mocking him for not knowing a damn thing. I told him he might want to look up what a magistrate judge actually *does*. After trying a couple more times to insist there was a warrant out for my arrest in a very serious felony matter, while I laughed and told him how pathetic his scam was and I was going to record the rest of the call: Bam! Disconnected. And they've blocked my number.

    Hey, I was bored.... ;-)

(I'm putting the Call Type as 'telemarketer' since there isn't a 'scam' option. Does anyone actually fall for this stuff and get scammed? If so, these guys need to go to jail.)

Called via a recording, When I called back, he told me I was under investigation and would be arrested by the US Treasury.  Then the call dropped. I had read the scam before I called and I was just calling him to see what he would say and get more info.
