Received a suspicious phonecall from a man with a thick Indian accent who said he was an employee of Global Microtech in Marblehead, Ohio, and his name was Jack Adams. He said my Windows computer had been infected with a virus when I was surfing the internet and their tech support could eradicate the virus from my computer by walking me through the procedure. I said okay, curious to see how far he would go, and he then said he was transferring me to tech support. "Tech support" also had a thick Indian accent, and I pretended to sit at my computer as he instructed me to turn it on and navigate to an administrative file in the operating system that had lots of red and yellow arrows. He said to ignore all the warning language and asked me to scroll down and tell him how many red and yellow arrows I saw. At this point I told him that I was uncomfortable working on my computer without consulting with my husband first, and asked him if I could have a phone number where my husband could return his call when he got home from work. He gave me the number 567-252-5221. I don't own a Windows computer!

There is in fact a real company by the name you are using.  A company whose name you have likely appropriated.  But you are not them.

If you folks are so legitimate I am sure you would not mind sharing your business address with us?

I got a call on my home phone on 4/28.12 advising me that my pc MS operating system is .He had an indian accent and claims to be working for MS global. He said his name was David Watson and I could return his call to 57 252 5221 when I told him I was busy now.

He warned me that my operating system had been infected and if I log in now, he could walk me through a fix to save my files.

Your caller is a criminal trying to trick you into giving him access to your PC. Don't do it no matter what he says.

Tiimbuktu is an old desert dwelling civilization in Africa. I didn't know desert dwellers had their own share of scammers as well. I thought they were busy stealing camels.

Call from Jack Adams wanting to "fix" my computer that has a virus with windows operating system.  Very suspicious.  So I also asked for a number t call him back since I was too busy to work on the computer right now.

I also received a similar call.  He said his name was Alvin Kingston, also with a thick Indian accent.  Said I had an infection , not a virus, in my computer.  Told him I was too busy to talk to him, then googled the phone number.

Thanks Elizacawa for taking the time to write your experience. this scam is still ongoing as of July 26th; same description of caller and company. I kept asking him what would be the final fix for my alleged problem, and when the answer was finally offered, taking over my computer, I stopped and told the caller that I would seek local help and ended the call. I became really suspicious when the caller directed me to my laptop computer which is five years old. This computer was professionally serviced by a Microsolft affiliiate last year due to a real virus/malware issue, and none of the issues the caller alluded to, the red and yellow flags had been fixed.

Tried to dupe my partner's mother and her husband; 73 and 88 y.o. respectively.  S.O.B.'s need to leave the vulnerable folks alone!

Received a call from this number, also thick Indian accent, said his name was Ricky Williams. Same story as other blogs.

i dont belive all you people i too have got service for my computer but they worked really good i dont know anything about you people but i will appreciate the work and also the employees of GLOBAL MICRO TECH especially ALVIN.

I received call last evening  (11/18/12) around 9 pm and 'Alvin' who identified himself as Microsoft Global, said My PC was infected with a virus.  Wanted me to go to my computer and open it and he would fix it!  Said for him to call me in the AM when I would be on computer.  He called back again and wanted me to again go on my PC, told him I had good ANTI Virus protection and he stated that ANTI Virus could not handle this infection which they have seen on my PC.  After reading what I see here I will not call back and if I have a problem I will have it checked locally.
Appears to be a Scam.

On 11/ 15/12 I received a cold phone call from a man saying he was the tech who takes care of my computer by the name of Peter Merchant. I have had this for 1-1/2 years and had talked to an HP tech when I got it. This man sounded just like him, although he was from a business called Global Micro Tech of Ohio. He said they had detected some hacker activity on my HP computer. He seemed so knowledgeable about what I had I assumed he was on the level. I am very cautious since I am a 75-year-old recent widow on just Soc. Sec. I normally hang up on anyone I don't know. He told me that this happened because I had not renewed the security on my computer. Knowing nothing about having to do that I took his word for it. He got hooked up to my computer and showed me over 1,800 red flags that he said were hackers and it was about to crash. I just about went into a panic. He said he could clean it up for me and install a firewall that no computer could get through. I told him at that point that I have never banked on line and have no personal info in it because I don't trust what hackers can do. He tried to convince me that once he installed the firewall I would not have to worry about that and could bank on line. I told him I would still never do that. I asked him what this service would cost and he said $243. I almost fainted but he had me scared NOT to have him do it. I agreed on it. He set me up with a supposed Paypal account which had their "code name" on the end of it, saying they handle their transactions through Paypal.. He had me fill out a form online and put in my credit card number. It came up as invalid. I suspect now that that was his doing so he could get the number of my other cards. So he had me put in my debit card number, which was shown to be valid, and fill in the rest of the form. I got a confirmation letter following that from someone, probably the same hackers. He went to work on my computer and it took about 2 hours. He installed Firefox and said that was in case my Internet Explorer should not work properly. Then he put four shortcuts on my desktop, one for Firefox, one for his "personal" phone number and email address and two for cleaning and defragging disks, both of which I had from another source. There was also one in the center of this circle of icons for something that I didn't even understand. Today, 11/23/12, I decided to Google the phone number he gave me and it came up on a legal hacker watchdog type of site. I was horrified to discover that this phone number, 567-252-5221, was used by computer hackers! I almost threw up! I rushed to my bank and the $243 had been withdrawn. I filled out a form for the bank which may enable me to get my money recovered. They cancelled my debit card and are going to issue me a new one. I also had them cancel my credit card and will get a new one of those. I hope they can catch these evil scums. I will have to now take my computer to a shop and have it cleaned up, I'm sure. Don't know what that will cost me! I hope this story will help keep others from doing the same stupid thing I did! I can't believe I really fell for that!

I received a call also in Nov 2012.  He did a good sell on me.  I let him fix what ever the problem
was.  My computer was slow.  Gave me codes and phone #'s.  Don't give out any information
unless you have them tell you the code.  Things were okay until January when my computer
wasn't turning on right.  I called them and he checked the problem, told me I had hackers in my
computer - 5 different times.   His tech could filter and remove all the infections I had.
I'm not  computer savey, I only e-mailed, have  photos, search the web for items.

The cost $243.  He couldn't take a credit card due to the infections, so I needed the money sent
Western Union.
