For the last two weeks, I have been receiving harassing phone calls from the same number. The gentleman will never disclose any information company's information. First he mentioned he was calling for a woman who was suing me for $300.00. The second phone call he said he was calling for a company. I have tried to get information on this number. It comes up as unpublished and Verizon residential phone line. Last, they have been calling my job. He was going to call my manager and lose my job. If anyone has any information, please forward it to me.

    Thanks,

    Ms Evans

These people have called me 4 times and my supervisor twice today.   They state I owe for a bogus payday loan that I never took out.  When I start quoting chapter and verse from the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, they act like I am speaking Greek.  The man that called me identified himself as Richard Thomas in his voicemails.  If he does not answer when you call back, the man who answers will only identify himself as Albert.  They pretend to be from some government agency with a warrant for my arrest if I don't pay them.  These men speak with very thick Arabic and Indian accents.  This number is an area of Pennsylvania under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania State Police instead of local law enforcement according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office.  Don't waste your time calling them initially, initiate a complaint through your local law enforcement agency.  Best of luck to all who are dealing with this scum.  Stay Tough and don't let the [***] intimidate you.  We got Bin Laden and we can get them too!!!

They have called me to as well, and called my job and harassed my co-workers.  They told me that there is a lawsuit against me.  They wanted me to pay $690, and they wanted me to give them my credit card number.  When I told them I didn't have one they told me to go walmart and purchase a prepaid visa card.  I kept telling them that it felt like a scam, and they said when the police show up to your job with a warrant you will see that it is not a scam.  So I decided to look up the number online, and boy am I glad I did.  I'm not sure how they even got all my information, although I did get a payday loan online two months ago and it has already been paid.  I thought maybe my idenity was stolen or something.

If thyey call you, tell them that the Federal Fair Debt collection act requires them to mail verification of debt.  If they say they cannot do this.  It is a scam.  I have saved the number and anytime I am having a bad day, I call them and give them a hard time.  Also ask for a physical address.

This is a version of the you-have-committed-a-crime extortion scam and you are being...
    1. charged with fraud or passing bad checks or embezzlement or
    2. served with a court summons or arrest warrant or bench warrant or whatever or
    3. located in preparation to being served or for a lawsuit or to be arrested or
    4. whatever stupid crap reasons they will think up next.

    And you have to...
    1. call back with your case number or
    2. confirm your address or SSN or whatever so you can be served or your papers can be processed or
    3. pay $895 now to avoid paying $5,000 in court or
    4. whatever stupid crap reasons they will think up next.

Beware extortion scams come in many flavors and they constantly evolve to stay one step ahead of the law.
The FBI warns about payday loan extortion scams here http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710
The BBB has issued several alerts on this scam, just google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"
Never do what they tell you to do but report them to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

Tell your bank or card issuer you've been scammed, ask that your bank/issuer claw back money from the thief, and ask that your card be replaced with a new one as criminals have it and can charge again. Be aware your contact info may have been sold to other scammers as someone who has fallen for this and you may get more scam calls in the future.

    Mandy- Great Advise as well!
I use to work for a payday loan place, sad but true. U can be taken to court if you dont pay, but the worse thing is u get a wage garnishment. Most companies dont like to do them unless they know for 100% where you work. But on the flip side im getting calls from these A**HOLES!  leaving me these BLAH BLAH messages about a court summons for bad checks. 1st off IF i was even to get a phone call from anyone it would be from my DAs office not some jerk in a call center. They damn sure dont give you the choice of attempting to keep this matter out of court. Also you DONT get summons over the phone, it comes certified US Mail or by some one in the clerks office. I know this for a fact. Make sure payday loans are even legal in your state for one, then call your Atternoy Generals Office to make sure its not a scam. If you have a case number, which this guy said i had, then there is a summons which i can find no record of lol, so why are u giving my the chance to keep this out of court? Shouldnt that be something myself or my Atterny disscusses with the ppl that are sueing me? Also they break to many laws just by leaving message. a collection message should state at most " My name is So n So please return my call at whatever number as soon as possible. They should never state the company name, the nature of the call or leave in of your personal info on a VM, this is incase someone else hears the VM and it totaly violates every privacy law, if it the loan is legit that cant do it cause you sign a privacy agreement when taking a loan. These ppl make me sick! all this is, is a dumb lame scare tatic to force ppl in to paying money they dont owe.....These guys are just buying your info from ppl. Dont worry at all, tell them to summons to, if you owe the debt, go the court house and pay it...and thats it. Also legit collection companies can run your credit...i had no spot on my credit where they did either..... But if you dont think this is a scam or just want to double check...follow these simple steps:

    1) Pull Your credit, see who is tryin to collect on you
    2) Contact your Atterny Genrals office, state your case, they should be able to tell you
    3) If they leave some case number or what not, call your local civil court and check the case number
    4) Do a back round check on your self

After this is all said and done here are some tips that can help you in the future.

    1) Reg your number (if you choose not to change it) on  www.donotcall.gov website, this takes your number from telemarketors.
    2) Google your name and city such as John Doe, Lakeville AL and see what comes up. This is because there are so many websites where ppl can look you up for free and get free info like your name, cell number, house address and email, and possible family member (which they can look them up too) this is without paying a dime, others you need to pay for for certain information, but you can each one of these sites and have your info removed....I DID! (Its legally tho, everything they have is considered public info)
    3) Avoid any internet offers like online payloan company, some are legit, your state website should have a list under small loan and approved internet venders.

I hope this helps guys! As i said dont worry about these jerks!!! theyre idiots!
