- Wilbur replies to william| 4 repliesYes, we received the same message yesterday. Tried to call the number from my office (just for grins) but only got a busy signal. The person on the message identified himself as "Officer James Anderson" with a heavy Hispanic accent.
- Glenn| 2 repliesI received the same call from a person identifying himself as "Officer James Anderson" from the IRS. This person also had a heavy accent.

- AprilI got the same message. The officer name was the same. He also had a Hispanic accent. Very weird.
- Alexandria| 2 repliesReally?! JUST happened to me too. Weird. Anyone know if it should be a legit concern at all? I don't evade taxes! Why would this be happening to so many of us in such a short span of time?
- Slim replies to Alexandria| 1 replyThere is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.
USA tax payers should read this:

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

I received a very similar call 2 days ago where I was asked to call a 202 number. I did and someone who identified himself as IRS agent David Graham (with an accent, calling from what sounded like a crowded space) said how someone did an investigation on my 2008 taxes and how I owed $4,000. It is a scam. When I asked him to serve me the papers (what any agency would do) he said it is not possible to do it anymore, the only way to avoid jail and cancellation of my driver's license etc was to pay the above fee. That's when I googled the 202 number I had to call back I saw that other people received the same call and were threatened the same thing. That's when I told the guy on the phone that I will sue him if he calls again and hung up.
- chrisI just got this exact message left on my answering machine. Same officer James Anderson etc. Thanks to everyone who has reported on this site, I know it is a scam.
- Alexandria replies to SiobhanThank you for the information. Good to know!
- randyReceive the same message about 1 hour ago. Thanks for posting.
- Nana5I got a call from officer Sanderson. Called the number back lady claimed to be officer Jennifer Smith. Told me I had committed tax fraud fro 2008 to 2013. Said I would be arrested in the next 45 min. Said the IRS was going to put a lean on my bank account and house. Said I needed to get every thing out of my house before I got arrested. Joke or What
- bigbob| 1 replyI got the same thing...officer james Anderson. ..lol now Jorge Espinoza I might have bought it but that accent didn't scream James Anderson at all... lowlife scammers
- MichaelI just had the same thing happen to me. Kind of freaked me out a little because I had just paid off some back taxes which I was fully aware of. Can't remember the guy's name, but had more of a Indian/Pakistani accent. Told me I was going to lose everything, was going to be arrested in 45 min, Needed $850,000 for something, wanted my lawyer's name. All for supposedly $5883.00 in taxes that I had under reported from the years of 2008 - 2012. He spouted off some chapter violations and a list of 4 other federal laws that I had broken. The moment I said that his sounds weird and did he have some sort of identification or verification of who he was, the phone went click. I was on google at the same time and saw that there were quite a few phishing scams out there and then put the phone number in and came to this site. Hope this saves some people for the mini heart attack I had at the beginning.
