- Kathleen Smith| 1 replyThese calls come in daily - the first time this man left a message on my cell phone and indicated he was from the IRS and that we were going to be put in jail and a lawsuit filed against us for taxes due. It was obviously a bogus call and a scam artist with not much intelligence. He continues to call and I ignore the calls. I think it iso sad that there are low life people like this who try to upst people and get into their wallets..
- Caller: IRS
- Call type: Debt collector
- RexIRS replies to Kathleen SmithThis is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). I have no idea who they are. They have called a couple times left no message.- Caller: Manassas VA
- CThey call 7 days a weeks at least once a day but sometimes more. I've called them back and got voicemail that where I requested to be place on do not call list but of course they still call. They only identify themselves as "charity" because if you identify yourself as charity you can avoid National do not call list. Caller ID only show I.
- Jules replies to Pfri| 1 replyKept calling here multi times during the day and several times a week asking for me like they knew me and telling me to pick up the phone. I had told my husband to answer the next time they called. So he did the other day. He asked you called and gave a name and said he was with the Fire fighters Assn. He said then why do you keep calling here asking for my wife like you know her. He told him to never call here again and never ever try to call his wife. My husband has a voice that would scare most people, but do you we just got a call from that same number again, but they didn't ask for me. haha. I am going to report this number, this is stupid, plus after you tell them not to call you again, I do believe they are suppose to stop, right. Suggest more people do this.
- DPhone number says Manassas, VA. Asked for 'head of the house'. I said none were home, and he said "ill take note of that" and hung up.
- Robert CumminsThese calls come from early in the morning until late at night. Is there any way to stop them?
- Caller: ?
- Donna replies to JulesI get calls from this number several times a week but never answer. I would not be surprised if they are calling on behalf of a firefighters organization, because there are similar ones for the police.-county and state here in Virginia that have called me. These may not be the "official" sanctioned organizations but they try to raise money. They perhaps do not have to observe "do not call" lists, just as political parties don't have to. I feel sorry for the telemarketing workers so I just don't answer and if I happen to answer, I don't get rude with them, I just say "don't call again" and hang up. That has worked sometimes.
