Recorded message indicating from IRS. Need to return call before action is taken. Whatever that means..

Calls and leaves messages that action is being taken for tax fraud.

I receive a call from this number alleging IRS Tax Fraud charges.... Called the FBI and was directed to the Federal Trade Commission. This is a scam, they are looking for information and will continue to call. Go to the FTC and log an online complaint with the date, time and number as shown on your caller ID. They are tracking this and will use the information to work against the group(s) perpetrating this action.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.

Reported to FTC - I received Msg on my phone answer recorder - call from Brian Smith (10/27/2014 at 0944 EST) from the IRS, Taxholder Dept. (Herndon VA) that my SS# was used for Tax Fraud and that a filing in the courts was going to be issued this morning (for my arrest?). He wanted me to call back (which I will not). I believe this to be a scam / fraud. Te# is 1-571-526-0022. The caller had an accent, which I believe he is originally from Holland.

Wow they changed their phone number...we have received another call today from 571-526-0022. Now it is a recording...We received calls from other numbers as well. IRS office here said it is all fraud.

Same basic call as noted above.

Same call. with an Indian Kevin Cooper. Would not shut up so I could ask a question - hint 1

571-526-0022, called my cell phone rang once then they hung up.  Same phone number called again immediately following the first call.  I answered the call.  Male caller on the other line, with heavy accent (Middle Eastern or Indian, perhaps???)   Person was claiming to be calling from the IRS and wanted to ask me some information about my background for my criminal record (as I have no criminal record I knew this was a scam phishing for personal information.)  I advised the caller that I wasn't going to release any information over the phone and that whatever information needed from me for the IRS could be sent to my mailing address.  The male caller said okay and then hung up.  I filed a compliant with the FTC at ftc.gov and plan on doing the same with the IRS

Message received from Brian Smith of IRS.  Warrant has been issued for my arrest.  To get more information, call 571-526-0022 for details.

They'll be waiting forever because I will NOT return their call.

Have turned off the ringers on all the phones in the house now.  Family and friends leave a message or call my cell.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). Got same type of message also from a Brian Smith and told to call 571-932-2012. I Called Verizon to try and get callers number from their log for tracing numbers and was told could not get number because of legal reasons. Traced numbers are only available for Police investigations. Would like to know where these jerks get the phone numbers they are calling.
