Similar experience, this person offered to buy an item from an online classified ad, offered more than the asking price and wanted it shipped out to them.

Just got a text message from this number asking about a camera I had to sell on Kijiji. They asked me what's my best price and then they offered to give me an extra $120 on top of my asking price to ship it via express post Canada. It looked way to fishy to me so I Googled the number and found this. I'm happy I followed my gut to not do business with someone that far away. All the red flags where there.

To the drive by reader: Remember that even in the 21st Century it can take 4-6 weeks for a check to completely clear your bank. It will appear to clear in 2-3 days. The check is either a good forgery, or the transit numbers at the bottom are fake. The idea of the 'overpayment' is to get you to use a cash wire transfer service (Western Union, GreenDot, etc.) to send money to their 'shipper'. The shipper & the scammer are the same person. Imagine that. In 4-6 weeks the check bounces & you are out cash, but do have lots of problems from an NSF check. SELL LOCAL.

Thank you, i got this message:
"Your price is okay with me. I'll offer you $560 (author note: $90 more than I'm asking for on kijiji) for the item and shipment via canada post air international. kindly send me your full name and paypal email address so i can make out payment now."

    Obviously, not doing it.

But, one thing I don't understand is how is the scam processed through paypal? Sorry, I don't use paypal or know much about it. I understand if it was a fake cheque or fake bank, but wouldn't Paypal have securities to prevent such a scam??

    cheers,
    Tom.

p.s. my reply was "fly to victoria from new mexico and I will sell the item for $470" let's see if he/she replies??
p.p.s the sms was in response from an ad i placed on kijiji.

They asked me what my best price would be...I kept asking where they were, and they wouldn't tell me so I ignored them. Their grammar wasn't very good. I'm selling a telephoto lens on kijiji

I don't understand how they can scam me through Paypal either?

Received a text from this number yesterday about a saxophone I am selling in Nova Scotia, Canada.  Sent reply asking for name, address, and phone number to be emailed to me.  No reply email.  Who ever is behind this scam doesn't want their
identity or address known.  It is impossible to ship something without an address.
