- annoyed in New York| 1 replyReceived a voicemail from phone 585-286-5969 claiming to be Officer Scott Anderson with the IRS. This man had a heavy accent. He advised that there had been a federal complaint made to the National Bureau of Crime & Investigation made against me with three claims. I needed to call back immediately before a legal action took place. I called back and asked for Scott Anderson. The man that answered said he needed my name. I asked again for Scott Anderson. He wouldn't transfer me until I gave my name so he could pull up information from my file. I wouldn't give him my name. I told him that I wanted Scott Anderson's badge number so my attorney could confirm who he was. The man said that they don't speak to lawyers unless I'm already going to jail. And, then he thought he hung up and thought a new call came in and said, Hello, IRS. That's not how they answer or speak to people. Please report any calls like this so we can put a stop to them.
- Caller: IRS - Officer Scott Anderson
- Ed replies to annoyed in New YorkI received the same Call! For me this is a scam! I said that I will contact my lawyer but he said if I do not pay some money I will pay a fine...
- AmyThe same thing happened to me! I'm across the country so I was really confused. I thought he said my name, but his accent was too thick to really hear. Then he just hung up on me and never called me back!
- In Kansas!I had three phone calls from the same person. When I called back they pulled up my information right away! I asked them to verify who they were and he got mad and said that I should know how to verify. He hung up so I called back and all the said was hello. I said hi, you just hung up on me. All I got was a "ya.". So I said you need to verify who you are and he said you're gonna feel something, and hung up again! So mad!! How the hell does he know my name etc.

- Not even in the states right now| 1 replyI got the same call today about 6 hours ago. It was a man with a thick Indian accent, but I didnt catch his name. He said my name and gave me the same story about the IRS and a complaint. He also knew my college, which freaks me out. He asked me if the police had already contacted me. I told him I'm not in the country, so he put me "on hold" to transfer me to someone else. He then came back on and said "the helicopter is coming to get you" and then hung up on me. The freaky part is that a helicopter was around my area like 10 minutes later and it was around for a long time. Terrible coincidence! I am so happy relieved to find out that I wasn't the only one who got a call like this today, although I'm still very concerned that he knew where I go to school.
- Caller: supposedly the IRS
- JessicaI received a call from this number this morning. The man left a voicemail saying he was an officer with the NYPD and that there were criminal complaints against me. He said I needed to call back immediately or charges would be filed. I assumed it was a scam because I've never even been to NY and the police would send something official through the mail.

- Sterling replies to Not even in the states right nowI had the exact same thing happen to me. Knew my school all that. Told him my parents knew more than I did and all he said was no, your parents aren't allowed to be involved with it. Either pay now or be arrested. His Indian accent was too heavy to understand. I got mad and said I don't know what he is talking about. He just hung up after I asked him three times.
- AnonymousReceived a call from this number, claiming to be a representative of the IRS. He transferred me to another person, both of whom had thick accents (Indian, I believe) and gave incongruously Anglicized names (though I can't remember exactly what). The second person told me of a detailed array of people who will be monitoring the call, including some lawyers. He confirmed that I work at my (easily google-able) workplace (a school, corroborating others' reports). Then he asked if I was [my name]'s father, and then hung up.
Reported the number to the FTC ( https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ ), but not sure if anything can be done. I'm noting that all the other reports on this page are from the past two days, so I recommend anyone else coming here to make the same report.- Caller: Allegedly the IRS
- CaitVery similar to everyone else's, except I've been called multiple times over the past couple months from different numbers. I get a call from someone with a heavy accent saying they were from the IRS and there was a complaint against me and they ask if I've been received a call from my local authorities. When I say no, they transfer me to someone else who also has an accent. One of the calls I said I was at work and couldn't deal with it now and they just hung up.
- anonI got the same call this morning from the same number, a man with a heavy Indian accent claiming his name was Scott Anderson and calling about a federal complaint. He used my name in the voicemail and said if I do not call back there will be serious consequences and legal action.
