Played a recording stating they are the IRS. I called back but no answer.  Bogus IRS. Be aware.

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

This is a scam!  Don't return a call like this.  I have received  about ten scam calls from different numbers and found information on the IRS site advising people to ignore these calls from scammers.  The most recent scam number called from today is 585-364-6548.

Are these people seriously as dumb as their phony message sounds? This is the second one of these received today...first one was from 866-978-4398 and of course when speaking to the individual had a heavy Iranian accent and told me that the FBI was on their way to my house if I didn't pay my $5,489.48 fee for tax fraud. FYI, I receive one of these calls about once a week from various numbers. Get a life, idiots!!!!!

I did receive call Saturday morning from number 585-364-6540 and some bla bla bla message. When I did return call there was a Spanish speaking guy. He told me this is IRS. I told him who cares and asked him what he wanted. Then he started asking questions Name etc. I told him if you calling you should know whom you calling then he just hang up the phone. Idiots.

Got this call easy way to tell if it's the IRS is ask for there ID # when ever you call they always state there name and ID # its the law they have too. As soon as I asked the idiot if he has ID # he said yes and hung right up "BUSTED DIRT BAGS"

Received this message from so called IRS saying don't ignore this call! IRS will send a letter first if there's a problem

They told me the same story and said I was going to be arrested, my properties would be taken and my driver license would be suspended for a year. I felt panic even though Im ok with my taxes. They asked me if a was ever was arrested, involved in money laundry or any other fraud activity. Then they said if I could pay within an hour the amount of $3,920 from 2009-2010 taxes.  They told me they would be on the phone and made me drive to my bank to do what I was going to be told. I got suspicious after I realized this shouldn't be the way IRS would take legal actions.  I decided to hang up then they called me 10 more times and then they used 911 number to reach me, when I answered there was somebody with the same accent.  The WORST and most scary scam ever!!!  

Recieved phone call today.  they left electronic message referring to the IRS and told me not to ignore and to call back as it was time sensitive.  i have been getting so many bogus calls that i have begun to search the web before i take any action

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

I called the number back and told the guy i don't owe any money. He said hold on and hung up on me. I then googled the number and called back and when the guy answered and told me he was officer so and so, I said, no you're not - this is a scam and he went "lalalala" and hung up on me again. Now he won't answer. TOTAL SCAM. I left a message that i was turning the number into the police so they will probably change it now.

Same with me.  No one on the line. The first time i called back it stated "voicemail" and a beep.  I hung up. The second time it sounded like someone or some automatic line picked up, but hung up immediately.  From the comments and responses below I am sure to ignore this scammer call.

bogus IRS call

Being the idiot and filth that I am I called back to tell them I own it all.   Temo said so and so did Carlla the bib butt.

I received a call from this number and was told I owed  4,748.00 dollars to the IRS ,and the police would be at my home in an hour to arrest me for fraud and taxes.I spoke to someone that used the name Jose Martin .I was also told that he would stop the arrest if I made a payment but it had to be for 500 dollars or more He expects me to call back .

I thought it was a scam just because the recording was so poor.  Glad I checked this site to make sure before I wasted anymore of my time on a scam like this.  Hate all these!!!
