I also received a call from this number and received a voice message from them stating the call was time sensitive and don't disregard it please call to get information in order to prevent legal action from occurring. I returned the call and spoke with a male who identified himself as David Miller from the IRS. He stated I would need to call him from a number that was not blocked and I would need to do it immediately. I explained I was not out of place that I would have access to another phone and I did not know how to change the settings on my phone in order to show the number I was calling from. After a few minutes I did return the call from an unblocked number and the message system stated to leave a message but then stated the voice message system was full to call back later. I have not been able to get through to them since.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

They called me too, I was finally ably to write down the name of this Julie and her number and called back with a land line that is a blocked number. Same guy he tells me Julie isn't working today but that he could help me he asked me for the number the message was left on and tells me my full name home address and that there is a Warent out for my arrest and he wants to know who my lawyer is and what is my case number when I said I don't have a lawyer I never got any of this in the mail and I have no clue what this is about, if the IRS wanted to get a hold of me they would send it to me in the mail. I said if this is real then they better send me something in the mail otherwise stop calling me or I'll sue him for harrassment , once I said that he hung up. Not two hours later I got a call from the number again and I didn't answer.  I just want the calls to stop.

I received a call on my way home from work yesterday. This guy with a heavy Indian accent informed me I had a warrant against me for tax fraud. He said I owed 4,800 and there's  a warrant out for my arrest. He said it was too late to pay because they sent me three notifications and I didn't respond to them.I was so upset I had to pull over (I was driving). It sounded so real! I was terrified. It sounded so legitimate. I started to cry.He asked me if I was crying I said yes and he asked me to calm down because he was going to help me. So he went from its too late to pay to asking me how much I could pay.He said you seem like a nice lady so I'll help you.He kept asking me how much I could pay.He was getting aggressive. I finally got home with this guy still on the phone ! I ran upstairs and told my husband! My husband took the phone and asked who this was. He told my husband, you will be arrested too because we file taxes as married. My husband was livid! The guy said I'm sending the police to arrest you.my husband yelled SEND THEM! I'll b waiting and hung up! They called back. I didn't answer. My husband is still mad that someone could call and upset his wife.I had the numbers blocked! I was still upset until I saw this site ! Thank you soooooo much! I almost want to hear from them again just to let them know how pathetic I think they are! Thanks again!

Do not return the calls.  This is a total scam.  These Indian scammers become abusive when they find out you aren't falling for their scams.  Block their numbers.  This i scam  originates in either India or Pakistan.

They can't be sued.  They are in either India or Pakistan working out of a call center and are beyond the reach of US law.  The local governments rarely do anything to shut them down.  Call blocker is your best bet and do not pick up on calls you do not recognize.   The calls themselves cannot be stopped.

    Axiom:

If anyone with an Indian accent cold calls you and 1.  threatens you or 2.  offers you something, you know it's a scam and hang up immediately and block the call.

    Corollary

Never wire  anyone money if you do not know them personally.

File a complaint with the FBI on their Internet Crime webpage     http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

IRS does not issue warrants and they do not arrest and have no powers of arrest.  Tax disputes are civil matters and 90% of all IRS Tax disputes are settle administratively.

    ___________________

Can't understand why anyone would pay any attention to  the words of a person cold-calling out of the blue, telling them  that they own money to someone and to pay them by untraceable means.

Unfortunately people will fall for this because some of these scams are so sophisticated. The IRS is the one business you don't want to go up against.I was one of those people that said I would never fall for a scam. But I almost did.Thank God I decided to research the number. To prey on the public this way is disgusting.

Got a call form the same number, I never answer numbers I don't know. They left a horribly sounding recording saying the same thing as stated above. When I called back a guy with an Indian accent answered "IRS". I just started laughing, he said "what are you laughing about?" I said that if this was the IRS this would be in the book of world records for the fastest answered IRS call EVER! He said "if you are going to laugh do not call this number" and hung up!

I would suggest as CWG40 said, be very sceptical of anyone calling your phone out of the blue (especially with a heavy Indian accent) regarding any money or any "account"

I reported this to the IRS.
