Received same automated call.  As a CPA I can assure you this is a scam. IRS only uses documented mail sources to communicate with people/business.

I just received the same IRS scam call here in Tampa. Remember the IRS never calls you, as they send you notices through the mail.

This call was from Robert Coston...same thing. The IRS tried 3 times to hand deliver messages to me about this lawsuit the IRS has against me. Since I was not home they were unable to deliver the letter regarding the lawsuit. Now, today, the cops will be coming to get me today and put me in jail for 6 days and seize all my assets until my court appearance. When asked why the IRS just didn't use the US mail to deliver this important information, he said they didn't trust the mailmen to deliver safely so they hire their own people to come to the house...and they left sticky notes on the door when I wasn't home!!! Very reliable! They are saving money instead of doing an audit on one person, they are doing group lawsuit! And yet they don't use the post office to deliver their mail. What a scam. Not even smart!

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.

IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes.   If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes.  All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

I'm from the Phila area. Just got the call today.  Here's how Xfinity translated the call to text:
"Hi officer Julie Smith from Internal Revenue Service and the hotline to my division is 585-444-7142. I repeat it's 585-444-7140. Don't disregard this message and do return the call before we take any action against you. Goodbye and take care."

Check the other number (585-444-7142) here on 800notes, it includes reports from people who called that number.  A total scam.

Received call today. Man with heavy Indian accent telling me the cops would be at my place in 1 hour and I was to be made a example for the other 20,000 people who have not paid their taxes. Said I owe IRS 4,600.00 and they were going to freeze all my assets. I told them this is the first time I had heard of this and no mail has been sent. They said they tried to call me on Nov 27th and Dec 9th. I had the guy on speaker phone and my bf told me it was a scam. I started drilling down on this guy and he hung up.
