- Sheila| 1 replyThis is a phone number used by National Credit Works (NCW). They are debt collectors of purchased accounts. They will not give you a mailing address and will ask for your bank account info. in order to withdraw the money. I am not sure if they are illegal or not but here is a link to another page on this site talking about NCW. https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-618-5731

- RandyThese people have been calling my cell lately and the other day they called my mother at work looking for me, so I called them finally and they are claiming I owe a debt from 2007 on a loan I took out. Then they say I closed my bank account to avoid the payments being deducted, the account numbers for the bank acct doesn't match to any acct's ive ever had, and the bank name doesnt either. They were all nice claiming that since I had never had any trouble with the law before they would at least hear my side of the story before proceeding to file charges against me, she also threatened me saying that the amount owed would triple with legal expenses and that what I did is considered a felony. They give no direct info on what I alledgely owe for and insist I arrange for payment of the supposed debt. But now thart I know more on who these [***] are I could care less about returning their calls, they can go [***] themselves! Thank you google.

- MelCalled and left a cryptic message re a very important file on the desk of the caller; said she had to speak w/me immediately. I returned the call and she asked me to spell my last name and what number I was calling from, then asked if I was from a couple different states and if I'd ever had another last name -- she couldn't find my file so asked if she could call me back. Her supervisor called back within 4 minutes and asked the same types of questions including my maiden name because they couldn't find me in their computer. I didn't give my maiden name but asked how they could have my number if I wasn't in their files -- the supervisor stated that it was possible I was listed as a reference or relative for someone they are trying to collect against. The person was pleasant and I had no problems with her but I did not provide any additional info since they have no file on me and I have no relatives in debt status.

- Casey| 2 repliesYes, This company is a sub-contracted debt collection company from Longwood, Fl.They get their business From NCW (national credit works) out of New York. They try to use scare tactics and often violate the FDCPA policies. I know this because I USED TO WORK THERE. Some people there are still friends of mine and are just trying to maintain a job in this economy but the owners have screwed me out of pay and bonuses, So i figure since they hurt my wallet, Ill try to hurt theirs. If they call you, just tell them that you are recording the call, as they are doing the same. Advise them that you are familiar with FDCPA regulations "fair debt collection practices act" and if you feel like having some fun and screwing with them, ask them if they are attempting to collect a debt? they have to tell you yes. They will try to tell you that your name and ssn are about to be "processed" for "bad check writing" on delinquent pay day loans. Per the contract that you initiate with a payday loan company, contract usually state that you cannot be held criminally liable for the bad check, especially if you know that it has not been paid. advise them that you need to get a legitimate fax number and send in a "cease and desist" letter. They can no longer contact you legally once you have submitted that letter. If they contact you again, you are well within your right to begin a harrassment suit.

- Terry replies to FredWell I'd sue, third party collection agencies aren't allowed to tell someone about an account unless told they could by the debtor. Might help.
- Detective, Police Dept.Hi Guys,
Please make sure that you are recording all calls from these people. They are doing illegal things everyday and its just a matter before they are going to get what is coming to them. I know this because they called my wife and started leaving threatening messages, and conversations which I have recorded and saved. I brought this to the attention of one of my superiors and they have advised me that this is an internal investigation that will lead to the punishment of anyone affiliated with this company. FDCPA regulations are nothing to be messed around with and they will soon find out. FYI, You must recieve regular postal mail confirming any debt before they can even call you. So dont listen to their mindless, uneducated non-sense aout how they just want to "get your side of the story." They are obviously low lifes from New York and are proffesional debtors themselves. Ive already looked up criminal history on some of the employees there and its not to good from what ive seen. There is some guy there, I think his name is Ed "something", that has talked to me about my wife's "alleged" paperwork and he thinks he is some kind of attorney, using legal terms, but we will see howgood of an attorney he is in front of a "jury of his peers".- Caller: Fortune Portfolio group

- sammieWe've been receiving phone calls from these guys , asking for a close friend where abouts; they mentioned it was criminal matter that needed to be addressed. Now that I know they are collection
attorneys there will be no more phone calls accepted from them. They do not give the name of their
company or address. I 'm not sure but what they are doing seems illegal to me, I intend to do more research.- Caller: unknown

- anonymous replies to SheilaLegit collectors per section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf *must* tell you at initial contact, or send you paperwork within 5 days of initial contact, the following:
1. $amount of debt,
2. name of the current creditor (which may differ from the original creditor who might have sold your debt),
3. a statement that that debt will be assumed to be valid unless you dispute in writing within 30 days,
4. a statement that that if you do dispute in writing within 30 days, the collector must mail you written verification of the debt,
5. a statement that if you ask the collector in writing within 30 days, the collector must send you the name and address of the original creditor if it's different from the current creditor.
If you don't get the 5 disclosures, orally or in writing (you do not have to ask for it, the FDCPA requires it), treat the collector like you would any SCAMMER. Scammers are using bought/hacked loan application data to extort payments for fictitious debts from victims and victims' families and friends.

The lady left a number different from the one that appeared on my phone.. the number appearing on my phone was 585-563-5200, however, the number I was told to call is 936-755-1144. The latter number she left appears to be located somewhere around Huntsville, Texas. She did leave some kind of a file number as well.

I know for a fact that I do not have any outstanding loans, credit cards, etc. So anyone else, please beware, we never know what is fraud or not anymore.- Caller: ACW

- Dawn replies to Casey| 1 replyThey just called me today. I told them I just went to court for my bankruptcy and they said it didn't matter that I am still going to be in trouble for writing a bad check. Is this possible?
- J PereZi do in fact owe a pay day loan which i couldnt pay and my check didnt clear. They try to make u think that they are affiliated with some time of peocessing company which sends you to court. There years later they still call me and no court for me!!! next time they call ill tell them to f off
- casey replies to DawnNo you will not get into trouble. No one there has any clue about how to operate a company legally. Everything they are doing is illegal. They are actually dividing the company and changing names so as to try and evade lawsuits. If you have already filed a bankruptcy then just speak only to your attorney. Dont accept calls form those idiots anymore and also notify them, if they do call you again that you are recording the call. they have to tell you that theya are collecting a debt. they cant do anything to you at all. Trust me.
- Former EmployeeThis company is about to go under. They have shortened their playing field from 15 collectors down to 4 collectors. They are downsizing because they are about to get caught in some heavy [***]. They are low life, Stupid, gut-less waists of perfectly good sperm. They are just a bunch of monkeys operating an illegal scam that has just not caught up to them yet. They can all go to hell and if you get a call from them, just ignore it as you should have something better to do.
