I got calls from this number twice today and yesterday. A man on the phone told me to call back to this number with extension number and talk to Mike Anderson. He said that you need to talk about your income tax bill, investigation bill? and mentioned about IRS. I couldn't understand all of what he was saying from his strong accent maybe from India but I thought it was a scam and didn't call back.

Indian guy called posing as an IRS agent with flaws in our tax stuff. Hung up on him and he called back 2 more times.  Called the phone # he called from and no answer or recording stating that it is the IRS.  Called the city police and made a police report.

Received email from our police department stating that this is a scam. If you receive a call, file a police report. Do not give out ANY information. And you could probably call the IRS and tell them. They take it very seriously if anyone is trying to get their money!

I received call from 585-697-3455 this today. A man on the phone (with foreign accent) told me to call back to this number and talk to Mike Anderson. He said that you need to talk about your income tax bill  I have received from IRS. I have received the calls like this twice before therefore I checked the number on line and found out it is a hoax. I and one of my friend have received calls like this before and have reported to police in September 2012.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I just received the same call this morning. I was told I had to call Mark Anderson with the IRS @ 585-697-3455 regarding a issue with last years taxes. I kind of got rude with the foreign guy on the other end telling him if there was an issue why wouldn't the IRS contact me directly? I just wish that stuff like this would stop. I could see some poor old lady getting scammed. Makes me very angry.

I just received a call from this number this morning - didn't pick up and they left a VM claiming to be the IRS and asking me to call back to discuss 'tax payment deficiency' and to avoid legal proceeding!

I found this info on the IRS website and I am going to call them on Monday to report.  I encourage others to do the same.

I think you can also e-mail the IRS at phishing@irs.gov which is what I'm going to do before I call them on Monday.  Everyone who gets a call from these guys - please take the time to e-mail and call the IRS.  I hope they can shut these guys down at a minimum, and hopefully prosecute them for attempting to scam or scamming people by fraudulently representing a federal agency.

I received a call from 585-697-3455 today (on Saturday morning). The man had American accent and he identified himself as an IRS junior officer named Ricky Jaden. He then asked me to call Mike Anderson at extension #09, and he had no information on my tax information. He said that he was calling from Niagra Falls  IRS office. However, this number does not match with the IRS phone#.

Just received a call with the same no.  We don't normally answer incoming call unless we know who he is.  He left a message saying something that I must call back or it may cause a legal action.  He has heavy Indian accent but his name is John Marshall???  It doesn't add up to me!

I am glad I checked it out online and found out it is a scam.  I will report to the police.  Thank you, Internet!!!!

I received calls on Sat and Mon early morning, from someone who works for Mike Anderson at IRS. He claims his IRS tax Id# I0N7248590. Orders me to call Mike ' right now' at 585-6973455 so that I can settle IRS dues. I googled for that phone number and thankfully ran across this website. I told him to do the same. He hung up.

Someone called this morning and left message regarding owing money to IRS and something about Medicare.  Could not understanding well because he spoke with a heavy Indian accent.  Sound suspicious and don't plan to call back.  Check on Google and found out the above complaints on this phone number.  Will do what Alfalfa and New Jersey II suggested to notify IRS.  Wonder how he got my phone number.
