Khristy - 31 Jan 2007They called for the first time today but my neighbour had complained to me about them several weeks ago. They call her home and almost every time have a different fundraising subject ranging from a Bible Society to a political orginization. We suspect it might be a scam.

Eric, In Gulf Shores, Alabama - 23 May 2007Got this call yesterday, may 22nd, 2007. Didn't answer it. But just out of curiosity, went into caller ID this morning, and looked it ou on-line. Wow. I am so glad that I did. These people ( or person ) are jerks to the core. I have no tolerance for scam artist.

RCD - 25 May 2007One thing you can try - i use one of the well known VoIP services for my home phone - and most services (Lingo, Vonage, Sunrocket) have a section on your account section on their web login where you can block certain numbers...just another step to help block...

Kathy - 26 Jul 2007You can call the number back and request to be taken off the, apparently, numerous lists that they get your number from, depending on what charity list they are working with at the time. And it will take longer to get you off any current lists they are using. Something like that. It's really that simple.

Mike P - 27 May 2008Because of number portability, some people use their old cell phone numbers as current house phone numbers, etc. So, you'll get the scam artists, non-profit groups, etc. who will call the cell number and claim that they were only calling a "home" number. If you do not have your cell number on the DO NOT CALL list, I'd advise doing so immediately.

George E - 30 May 2008Go to the FCC web site and file a complaint there. You can do that even if you were not on the DNC list. I understand cell phones become eligible for telemarketers June 1st so be sure to get on the DNC if you are not yet. If your carrier has the facility to block them, do so as well.

Nope. You have to register your number on the Do Not Call registry just like land lines.

CRB Shumate - 1 Nov 2007The caller this time asked for my husband ( who was at work at the time she called, 12:31 p.m.). I tld her she called the residential line. Then she said that she was for Conservative Womens olictical Action Group, forum etc.
Why my husband would be a member, I don't know. I told her that the organization was a anit-abortion group and tht my husband and I ae both pro-choice and to take us off her list.
However, after reading the previous post, my guess is tht the caller was not from a Consrvtive Women's forum at all, but probbly a scam artist tying to scam the pro-lifers. Just about 90% of the people in this are are pro-life, so if hse made a pro-life spiel, she probably would be able to exact some kind of donation scam. At any rate, I thought I would pass it on. It's either more Pro-Life organizational solicitation or a scam in the name of a Conservative Women's movement.
BTW, I am also on the Do Not Call List. I understand that survey research, calls from candidates and charities are exempt from the list. However, I don't thnk a Conservative Women's Action groups qualifies. That's just llke any other telemarketer!

Because we have friends traveling through the Phoenix I tried to call back twice and got a fast buxy signal both times. Then I called our firend's cell phone - they had not placed the call.
