they have been calling for months several times a day.  When I answer and tell them that the person they want is not living there, they still continue to call every single day.  Now they are calling my cell phone and wasting my minutes.

I'm having  the same problem as everyone above.  I've only had my number for 2 weeks, and I don't know who had it before me.  They call 2-3 times a day and leave a message on my answering machine, but it's too long for my machine to hear the end of the message with their contact info.  I was able to look up their infomation to complain  though.  I figure if they don't fix it the first time I call them, I'll just keep bugging them every time they bug me.  We'll see who's more hard-headed.  I have free long distance after 9pm.  Here it is:

I called the Call Center at 1-866-484-0204 and have spoken to Kathy at extention 3232, and she has removed me from their calling list.  She was very nice.  You need to call during business hours though, or you're on hold forever.

Of course if you realy do owe them money (My new phone number used to be owned by someone who did owe them money, I don't.) you may still be out of luck.  They're going to keep calling you.

    please note
This is progressive Financial, NOT progressive insurance!

this is some place in Arizona claiming to be a
collection agency. Who knows who they are.
I won't talk to them and don't care what they want
because I never deal with random phone calls from strangers
especially when they are several states away from me.

Another of these today. Verbatim, this is what the young guy said, "You know, if you're not there (person's name that I am not) you should just hang up."

    Obnoxious and persistent.

these losers called my boyfriend today on a debt that was over 12 years old. They would not tell him an account number, and told him it was from either NC or NY State, they weren';t sure which. Liars. We have done our homework, and know that the statute of limitations is up in both states. We sent them a cease and desist letter for all contact and told them the SOL was up and he would not pay. Check the SOL on your debts.Send them cease and desist letters. Do not let these pricks intimidate you. They want you to be ignorant and not know your rights. Fight back.

Another parking lot lawyer, saying the statute of limiations is up.  On certain types of debt, the statute of limiations is upwards of 15 years and sometimes there is no limit.  Regardless, your boyfriend owes this debt, so tell him to pay up.

    Sincerely,

    Truth Teller.

your idea of truth is obviously different than mine, but what can you expect from a low life bottom feeding [***]? For your information, the debt was not his.It belonged to his ex-wife, and they could not provide any proof that it was. It was also over 12 years old. The statute of limitations in NC is 3 years and in NY is 6. I know that someone with the education of a first grader would find the math too hard to comprehend, but that would make the debt 9 years past the SOL in NC, and 6 years past the SOL in NY. So even if the debt was his, which it was not, he would be under no legal obligation to pay it back. So take your pay up advice and stick it, and if this makes me a parking lot lawyer, great. It got 2 debt collection agencies off his back for this debt, because they knew they had no case. So, I will continue being a parking lot lawyer, and you can continue being an [***]. you do it so well....

whats the statute of limitations on doing the right thing?  this debt aside, this is systemic of people who don't believe in paying up if they owe the debt.

    what a shame...

To Truth Teller- Another collector troll pops his ugly head out of his cubicle after harrassing endless people to shoot off his ignorant spiel about "just pay your debts". When the company refused to answer his questions of where the debt was from, an acct #, or validate the debt in any way, they legally lost their right to collect on this debt. Under the FDCPA, when a debtor requests validation of debt, legally the collector has to send validation of debt. This company was not complying with FEDERAL LAW, and so, my boyfriend had every right to tell them to drop dead. More than likely, they didn't have any proof the debt was his, and they were trying to lie to him, and intimidate him into paying. Sorry loser, maybe that is how you operate, but we are well aware of our rights, and if the collection agency is not going to give him any information about this debt, then they can kiss our butt, because we are not going to hand over money to any moron who happens to call and claim that it is owed. So go back to your cubicle, and your sorry pathetic job and life, and butt the f out. Get a real job loser.'

To Truth Teller- Also, did you not read the part about the debt belonging to his EX-WIFE, AND NOT HIM? Why the f should he pay for a debt that was never his to begin with? Again, shows your lack of intelligence. Butt the f out, its obvious you don't know crap about collections.

Hey Truth Teller- What's wrong spanky? Did the fact that this lady knew what her rights were and the fact that you weren't going to make a dime off of her upset you? Why should anyone pay for a debt that wasn't theirs, regardless of whether the SOL is up or not? You're just pissed because as consumers, people are through with being bullied by unscrupulous debt collectors, and are learning our rights, so it is cutting into your commission, isn't it, spanky? I notice you didn't bother to respond to any of the other posters, only the one who knew what her rights are under the FDCPA. Oh well, looks like you are SOL(sh** out of luck). And for your information, if someone doesn't owe a debt, they don't have to pay it. And if it is past the SOL, and they don't want to, that is within their rights, too.
