- Arkansas Target| 5 repliesBeware this number: 603-890-4034. I traced it via Google to Windham Professionals (http://www.windhampros.com), a collection agency out of Salem, NH. Apparently they handle recovery of student loan debts and are working with Sallie Mae, which is how they happened to call me. A friend living with me owes on a student loan she can't pay back now because she can't get work, so this is one of two collection agencies hassling her/us (she also can't pay the $200 they want to extend the deferment, so she's between a rock and a hard place; if they want to go after her, lots of luck--she has no income to garnish and doesn't own anything worth the 5-figure amount she probably owes).

- indebtuptomyeyeballs| 11 repliesThese people are just doing their jobs, but beware. They are ruthless. They will call everyone on your contact list, over and over again. But because they follow the rule about not divulging information, theres nothing you can do to stop them. And if you do call them back to make payment arrangements, if you don't do it the way THEY want you to do it, regardless of whether you actually have that kind money to give realistically every month, they will threaten to basically ruin your whole life (its not the words they use, its the tone they use). They are rude, hateful, and will talk over the top of you, getting louder and louder and then eventually hang up without actually listening to what you have to say. I no longer answer their calls.

- IdaI just got this phone call for the first time from a man named Bryant. Since my federal school loan is in good terms, I was curious as to who I am supposed to owe money to??? Also, they called my skype number which I find slightly disturbing--how did they find this, and why are they contacting me this way?

- Nicki| 3 repliesI recieved a call at work yesterday from a lady. I work in a pharmacy so its busy. I answered and she asked if I had a minute to talk I said actually no. She said this was the only number she had for me and what would be a better number to call. I gave my cell number and then she asked when is a good time to call. I said I'm in and out of doctors and work so I dont know next week. She said ok and then hung up. She never said where she was calling from or why. Which I thought was weird. Today I get a call on my cell phone from the same lady. On my voicemail (cause I dont answer numbers I dont know) she said to give her a call. I thought i told this lady I could talk next week. LOL. I hope she likes getting my voicemail. So beware they wont tell you who they are until they get you hooked in a converstation first. I had to google the number to find out who she was even with.

- Teisha| 3 repliesThese people are liars and will steal money from you. My husband had student loans and we got on a payment plan of $50 a month (signed a contract and everything) with them. Without our consent they took $100 each month out, and once we had made the arranged upon 9 payments to get the loans taken out of deferment they make up all these new rules saying that the economy has gotten worse so they will not honor the contract. We have been dealing with all of this BS for a while now. We have contacted AES and a few congressmen and Windham is still dragging their feet. BEWARE THEY WILL LIE AND CHEAT AND STEAL MONEY FROM YOU.

- MelI have been receiving calls from these people for several months. The hitch in my case is that they are trying to reach a person that obviously had my telephone number before me. They ask for this person by name and we tell them they have the wrong number and the number they called does not belong to that person. It appears that they are trying to collect an old debt and they have an old number. Imagine, people that don't pay their debts changing their phone number...go figure. I just happened to get one of those phone numbers and the harassment along with it. They have been told repeatedly to stop calling my number without success. I have now had a courtesy trace put on my phone line by the phone company and I have sent them a cease and desist e-mail. Next step, if they keep calling, is to send a certified cease and desist letter to them and force the issue with legal action through my phone company's call records. It also appears that they have several call centers and the information given to them does not always get disseminated across the organization. In that case, you would have to tell each and every caller that you don't want them to call you anymore. That is essentially impossible if it is a company with many calling reps. The funniest thing about it is that if they were to do a Google reverse lookup on my number, they would quickly find that it does not belong to the person they are trying to reach. Power and intelligence do not necessarily go hand-in-hand.

- Benji| 1 replyCollection Agency just doing their job.
I got a call from this number when I was in an area with almost no cell phone coverage. I had been dealing with Wyndham, on behalf of my dad, regarding one of my brother's many student loans that my dad had co-signed (and thus came about my dad's rule of never co-signing on a loan again!).
Anyway, I know everybody hates collection agencies, but the person I dealt with, Denise W., was professional, courteous, and accomodating.- Caller: Windham Professionals

- doingourjob| 4 repliesSo many people want to lay the blame on us, for their own misfortunes. We, as bill colllectors, are not to blame for your hardships, and/or complete and utter refusal to pay back a debt that you rightfully owe. Lay the blame where the blame is deserved. And for those out there who believe that simply not answering their telephones, means that this bill will go away, you are sadly mistaken. We deal with federal loans. It's hardly different than owing the IRS money. And believe me, they will get reimbursed, one way or another. What so many of the public are ignorant to, is that if you are truly going through a hardship, there are indeed programs available to you that require little or no money, and will help get your situation back on track. But ignoring the calls, cursing us out when we try to help, and venting your ignorance on this page, will never be of any help to you.

- Oh please!Oh please. Give me a break. The blame is placed on you because you harrass. You think people don't want to pay their bills? I highly doubt people are ignoring their debt. You're not trying to help anyone. If you've been cursed out, I'm sure there is a good reason for it. You guys are rude and unreasonable. I think that's the criteria for your job.

- AMYI get a phone call from these people every day. They are looking for somoene who had this number before us. Well they and every other collection agency it seems. The bad thing is when I try to explain that this is not the residence of said person, they are out and out rude. I have called back and tried to get in touch with someone but nothing has been done. This is getting ridiculous. Now I have to pay to have my number changed because of these people and their dents.

- Katherine Madison replies to doingourjobHow about if that is the case you do not suggest any of the programs to your clients when they are on the phone. If there was somewhere I could get some help free I would do that because guess what you all have taken over 1/2 of my paycheck and I am now in an hardship and I explained that to the lady. If she wanted to help me why not give me some of this good information instead of making me feel like a good for nothing for not being able to pay a bill that has gotten totally out of control. - jo replies to indebtuptomyeyeballs| 2 repliesI went to school and have a student loan with sallie mae... I too am getting these calls but I am paying on my student loans. I'd be careful because when I asked Sallie mae about them and several others they made it sound as thought they knew nothing about this place!!! I do not answer my phone when they call.
- Stop Lying replies to doingourjobThen don't lie to us when you call and let us know that you are trying to help
- Not refusing to pay"...and utter refusal to pay back a debt that you rightfully owe". For many of us including myself, it's not a "refusal to pay", it's that there are more pressing bills at the moment, like rent and food. And this calling 2-3 times a day bullsh*t needs to stop. Practically nothing changes on a day-to-day basis, let alone over the course of a few hours. I was unemployed when you called at 9am today, I'm unemployed now, and i'll still be unemployed when your 3pm harassment rolls around. You'll get paid when I can afford to send payments without starving to death or living on the street and not a moment before. Until then, you can kindly f*ck off.

- BobbyNoName| 3 repliesI am not a bill collector nor do I owe any money and I have not received calls from this number. I do however work in a similar industry and know that if you owe someone money, they will try to get you to pay.
It sounds as if 'harassment' works in many cases, or the agency wouldn't do this. This is obviously not classified as legal harassment or the agency could not do it this way... In any case, if you want the calls to stop, pay your bills people! I realize we all have tough times in life and this can be difficult - look for your options. Don't expect the person you owe money to to come to you an offer a solution - YOU need to go out and find a solution!
If you went to college, you are obviously smart enough to have done some things correctly... Use what you learned in college and figure out a solution people - quit placing blame on the poor person just doing their job trying to get you to pay the bill YOU owe!
Remember, these are people just like you and I who are working for a living trying to make money to pay their own bills! Do you think they need you getting angry at them because YOU didn't pay YOUR bill?
OK, my 2 cents has been spent - PEACE!- Call type: Debt collector
- Taylor replies to indebtuptomyeyeballs| 7 repliesYES....you can stop them. What are you talking about?? They are using illegal tactics to try to get people to pay their bills. I offered them 4,000 cash on an 8,000 student loan and 400.00 payments a month and they 1- wouldn't take it because I wanted them to release my co-signer of any liability....are they nuts?? In this economy they wouldn't accept that offer?? 2- they threatened my co-signer with having his position as his job revoked...this is a FEDERAL OFFENSE!!!. I am now going to report them to the DA, the FCC and anyone else I can think of because what they are doing is illegal. There is no debtors prison anymore..............they threaten you w/ lawsuits even if you are willing to pay. They are rude, nasty and stupid....they picked the dregs of the earth for this job. They think the people they call are going to fall for their tactics but I did not and my message is be very careful if you are dealing with them and report anything illegal they try to pull.
