Said I owed 4k in taxes and I would be arrested in 45 minutes. Lol

Just received a phone call from 609-308-3528 stating I am in violation of not paying 2012 taxes. Stated I was issued a CB523 notice and refused to comply. The person's name is Mark Smith. Employee ID 17744. SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! Could not understand caller Company name due to thick Indian accent.

Someone called my wife and said he was from the U.S. Treasury Dept. and his name was Robert Miller (with thick Indian accent).  Said that my wife would be arrested within 45 minutes for unpaid taxes from 2012.

We rec'd 3 voice mails today from this same number from Alex Ferguson threatening the same thing - claiming federal criminal offense.  I won't be returning his call!!!  Going to try to block this number!

We also received 3 voice mail messages from an "Alex Ferguson" who says "this message is intended to contact you..." He has a heavy accent and his English is a bit off. There is no doubt that this is a scam. It is a recording that would be sent out thousands of times in order to lure in a few naive individuals who might be intimidated to send them money. The U.S. Treasury would NEVER contact anyone in this manner.

I have an unlisted telephone number and a few years ago put my phone number on the FCC “Do Not Call” (DNC) list. Soon after this I started getting 5 to 10 calls a day from telemarketers/scammers. I also discovered the FCC is clueless or helpless on how to enforce the list. After doing some research and reading the 800notes comments I discovered why. The telemarketers actually use this same list to call us!!! They realize the FCC will not, or cannot, stop the calls so why not use the list? The head of the FCC in charge of enforcing the list is Thomas Edgar Wheeler. Before his FCC position Mr. Wheeler worked as a lobbyist for the cable and wireless industry. He was appointed by President Obama to run the agency in 2013. Many people at the time expressed concern over Wheeler for the position due to his history of lobbying for industry. So don’t question why you are getting these annoying calls as long as Mr. Wheeler is in charge of enforcing the list. If you are really unhappy with the annoying calls then write to your congressman, senators, news agencies, 60 minutes, etc. and let's get rid of Mr. Wheeler another do nothing, worthless, government employee.

The FCC does not handle the Do Not Call list.
That is handled by the FTC - Federal Trade Commission.

If you want the FTC to be more proactive towards regulating unwanted telemarketing calls, and more reactive against the fraudsters, the FTC will need more money to hire more workers. There are a vast number of scammers out there.

Keep in mind that certain people in the US want to abolish the FTC and the FCC. They call themselves libertarians.

Received two (2) calls from this number on 5/4.  The first call a "Alex Ferguson" left a message.  The accent was very thick and all I made out was he was with the U.S. Treasury Department and I needed to call him to avoid criminal charges.  My first impression was this was a scam.  I called the number using a different phone.  I didn't give my name and asked them who they were.  His response was he was an agent with the US Treasury Department and kept asking for my name.  When I said I wasn't going to give it, he hung up on me.  The number has been blocked.
