I posted an ad on both Reddit and Craigslist about a missing wallet and this person sent me a text message and said that they found my wallet.

Following was the text message I got from them:

"Am sorry for the late reply, after i confirm the details that you are the owner of this walleti have an urgent text message about my mom sickness sorry. But i m currently in Africa nigeria to take good care of my mom and i will soon get back to state by June 19th. i am on my way going to sent it rhough dhl agent office now regard catherine."

I didn't even need to respond to the dumbass. The poor english comprehension, bad spelling and the word Nigeria clearly indicates that this [***] is a scammer.

Very similar response from a Catherine on Craigslist. I sent a response before looking at this site. Oh well, another lost wallet floating out in space. I don't understand scammers!

This is what I recived today on my phone. I had lost my wallet and made a post on craigslist. I knew it was some sort of scam. Because I found my wallet! A few weeks ago    

What low lives! I mean to scam someone who is already down on there "luck" then just try to take what ever they can.  Makes me sick! I feel bed for those who did get scammed. :(
Keep you eyes peeled and always trust your instinct!

The number came from a VoIP phone with the number of 682-237-9006

I recently lost my wallet and it was returned to me. I received a text with the following message three days later:  "Hello, My name is Ashley I'm a deaf. A wallet was found and if you can name whats inside the wallet and where you lost it and describe the wallet to me. also provide correct information with your full name and address matching on ID including your email address.  with the description and i will be more than happy to return it. Thank you Ashley."

It took me a minute, because I then thought that I might have lost my checkbook wallet as well, so I sent a brief text describing the contents of the billfold (nothing identifying, just my library card and my REI rewards card), along with my name (not my full name) and advised that I didn't feel comfortable providing an address or an email address or a copy of my identification. I said that there was a police case open for the missing wallet and if she wanted, she could just mail it or drop it off to the police department, since she would have my address on the checkbook if she truly had my billfold.

She then texted back to advise that "Am sorry for the late reply, after i confirm the details you are right, I have an urgent text message about my mom sickness sorry but I'm currently out off state to take good care of my mom and i will get back to state. By November 29. also provide your complete email to complete the form at the D.H.L office.  i am on my way going to sent it through DHL Agent office, Regard Ashley."

I texted back saying that it doesn't make sense and asked why she wouldn't just turn in the wallet to the police station, I then asked for a photo proving that she had the billfold and said I would not disclose any personal information.  I also told her that the only way she could have gotten my number was off of my lost and found ad on craigslist.

Then I googled "Ashley deaf and craigslist" and my suspicions are confirmed. I'm going to mess with "her" for a little bit to teach her a lesson.
