Calls from 612-246-4385, a spoof number for a "law firm" (Goldman & Martin, LLC) that attempts to collect debts for old HSBC accounts that were written off, then sold to companies like Bayview Solutions LLC, and others. Many of these accounts were created due to identity theft. Although they have been identified as such, have been investigated and removed from credit reports as fraudulent accounts, companies like HSBC sell the accounts to companies like Bayview anyway. Bayview then uses the sleazy "law firm" collectors to attempt to harass the named "account holder" into paying all, or a portion of the debt - regardless of the fact it was a fraudulent account, investigated and removed from all credit bureau reports. When these companies, like Bayview and Goldman & Martin are provided proof the account was fraudulent and the named account holder is not responsible, rather than deleting the account, they knowingly pool it with other such accounts and sell them to other companies. Apparently, they feel it is better to recoup something on their mistake. The consumer is then pursued by a NEW set of companies who have unwittingly (or perhaps knowingly, it's unknown for certain) have purchased the accounts. The cycle is repeated over-and-over. The consumer named on the fraudulent account is left proving and reproving over and over and over again they do not owe the debt. It makes an already stressful and horrific experience of having had their identity stolen and and their credit ruined an even MORE HORRIFIC experience. The only recourse is to contact the State Attorney General - Office of Consumer Protection, State Legislators, and elected U.S. Congress members from your district; explaining and providing proof to them can lead to them interceding on your behalf and pressuring the debt collector to stop collection efforts, and to delete or destroy the record so it does not happen again.
