- DanI received a call on my cell phone at 7:42 p.m. on 8/5/08, while out dining. I have never had a loan with them. I have never given the number to anyone but friends and family. A call came shortly after from 1-800-715-2523, the Great Lakes Higher Education Repayment Assistance.

- Albre StevensonCalling asking for someone who is not here. I never have taken a loan out thuogh them. So I have no idea why they call my number. I wish they would stop. They come in on diffrent numbers and many times in one day.
- Caller: Great Lakes
- MikebThey called me tonight and asked for me as if they knew who I was. I thought I might know them because we have many relatives with the 612 area code. It took me a minute to figure out that I did not know who this was and that they were just fishing for information. This tactic is irritating.
- NevI have a Wells Fargo student loan so "Great Lakes" doesn't really mean that's the company that wants your money. Either way, someone does... *sigh* Anyhow, they call from many different numbers. One day it will be local. One day it will be from Ohio. One day it will be an 800 number. They do it just to screw with you.

- Only Me| 2 repliesIt is Great Lakes Financial Department. They help get monies from delenquent student loans. Yes, they call from many different numbers to justify the amount of calls one person might get from the same company in the same day. They "want to help" yet when trying to do so, they only tell a person to just pay the bill, as if that is easy for some people even if the payments are only 50 bucks a month! ugh!

- Will replies to mattiYou know you can request all correspondence be in writing, right? They have to stop calling if you ask them to. (and give them another option)
Get everything in writing, send everything via certified mail. - Jim replies to Only MeYes, they have done that to me. They say they have many options to consider. I called and they pretty much said I didn't qualify for any of the programs and that I had to pay ... so much for helping...
- Shelly SmedsrudStop Calling me all communication will need to be sent in writing!
- Marie MillerGreat Lakes is not a loan originator, they purchase loans - almost always educational loans. Almost right after you graduate your loans will be sold to a company like Great Lakes or say Sallie Mae (another well known educational loan service). And whether you gave it to them or not... it is not all that hard to get someone's cell phone number or any information frankly... wonderful age of the internet!
Also loan companies, not just Great Lakes employe what are called "Skip Tracers" ... they do exactly what the name implies they trace loan skippers.... they will call old employers, old neighbors, search you out on facebook or myspace... quite ingenious some of them.- Caller: Great Lakes
