I didn't receive a call, but I received a letter asking me to call.  They also sent me a check for $3,500.  They said that I won an Australian Sweepstakes for $250,000 and that the first check was sent to me so I can pay government taxes.  I went to http://www.thelocalbbb.com/alerts/alerts.html?newsid=662&newstype=1 there is an article about a Scam from Canada and all the details.  DON'T DEPOSIT THE CHECK, read the article on BBB first! Also, it is illegal for anyone in the US to participate in a Foreign lottery... FYI.

I work for a local bank in PA, the same thing happened to one of my customers. She received the letter and she did deposit it. Thankfully she did not spend the funds and the check was returned. She called the number and spoke to Ron Clark who does not sound American and said she just needed to get the check activated and then it would work. I called also and he would not give me any information and hung up on me. We see alot of these scams and most likely the phone number will be disconnected with in a few days. LOSERS!

Fortunately I know this is a scam but many people would not.  I received a check for $3,900US drawn on LaSalle Bank N.A., Chicago, IL  60603, Acct # at bottom of check: 631972 071923022 5598880218.  The payer of the check is "Zenith Financial Inc," 299 W. Houston St., NY NY 10014.  The accompanying letter with the check was from International Award Presentation in Niagara Falls, Canada.  The envelope did have a Canadian post mark.  The letter stated that I was the second place winner of the Australian sweepstakes lottery program held on 7/2/2007, claim # ZM 2426-5834 C.  Here is more from the letter:

"A ticket w/ serial # 674009...entitles you tot he sum of $250,000...will be delivered via FedEx.  Enclosed is a check of $3,900 which was deducted from your winnings.  You are required to use the money from this check to pay for the Government applicable taxes and insurance on your winning through Moneygram or Western Union...your claims attorney Ron Clark, 1 613 262 8146."

Just an FYI, I reported this to the US Federal Trade Commision and to econsumer.gov (a complaint database for the US FTC), and the US Postal Service for mail fraud.  I will probably contact the bank that the check is written on, too.

I too have just received a check for $1,990 with a letter saying that thatI am one of the second catergory winners of the Euro Sweepstakes lottery program held on Sepembe 28th.  The $1900 check theyhave send me they say is to be deducted from my $85,000 winnings and the check is to pay tax and insurance for the safe delivery of the remainder of the monies to be delivered by Fed Ex.  It says I am to contact Ron Clark who I have tried to call but there is just his voicemail which is full so you cannot leave another message.  Having read your comments you have confirmed my suspisions that this is a scam and I will not be depositing the $1,990 check.  These people need reporting!.....

I rec'd the letter and the check as well.  I called the number and spoke w/ Ron Clark.  I kept asking questions about how I won, what would happen if I deposited this check, etc.  He just kept telling me to deposit the check and call him back.  As soon as I hung up I came onto the computer to investigate.  Obviously this is a hoax and I will contact the authorities.

I did not receive a phone call, but I just received the same letter; dated 09/28/07.  I looked up the address on the check and it was a residential neighborhood!  The other thing that caught my attention was the fact that there was no return address...

I also recieved one of these letters today and was suspicious, when I did a search online and thankfully found this page.  Mine also references a "Ron Clark" at 1-613-262-8146 and a check for $3,900 "which was deducted form my winnings of $250,000." It is also amazing to me to see all the bank names from this site that they use on theses checks for the same claim.  My $3900 check appears to come from Scurlock Financial, 3725 Sout McCollum ave, Fayetteville, AR 72702 drawn on the bank, Bank of Fayetteville, One South Block St, Fayetteville, AR 72701. I recieved my letter after a late night and I called at an untimely hour to see what kind of company it was.  It goes to a Fido Answering service and asks you to enter in a 10 digit code to retrieve your messages.  Sounded more like a personal answering service than a legitimate company's.  I also will send my check to the bank on the check as another poster on this site mentioned.  Can't believe I got one of these!  Wonder how they get our names for this? ? Anyhow, my suspicion was confirmed after reading this website.  Thank you all for your postings!!

One of our company employees also received a letter similar to the ones already posted.  It was sent to her home with no return address.  It had a Canadian postmark.  She too had won $250,000 in the Australian Sweepstakes.  She was sent a check for $3,900 from Security Financial in Houston, Texas (ficticious institution) to be drawn from Sterling Bank in Houston, Texas.  She tried to call "Ron Clark" at 1-613-262-8146 and got a recorded message to call again later. She googled Clark's number and that is how she found out about everyone else getting the same letter.  Thanks to all who posted their experiences in this scam.  It was a perfect vehicle to get the word out to warn others.

Check in the mail with no return address and a Canadian stamp.  Says to call Ron Clark at 289-888-1915.  Says the same thing as everyone else's: A check in the amount of $3900 which will be deducted from a total award of $250,000.  Mine was written by Croix Promotions in Houston Texas.  I wish I really would have won a bunch of money!

My sister-in-law received this and was so excited b/c its a real check.  But the contact was John Walter.  When we called the number, its just a voicemail pick up service.  Thanks for these postings, it saves us a lot of headache.  Is there anything that can be done?  She received a check for $2,740 USD.

Thank goodness someone helped me find this site.  Yesterday I received a letter and a check for $1900.  The letter was from International Award Presentation, indicating that I was a 2nd place winner in the Euro Sweepstakes Lottery Program.  I was instructed to contact Ron Clark at 1-289-892-0075 to activate the check.  I called and a gentleman told me that the systems were closed down and I should call the next day -- which I didn't, because of the info on this site.  I will also report this to econsumer.gov.  Thanks, all!

No call but a letter from Canada just as all above.  The contact was, again, Ron Clark at 289-892-0075.  The check was from Zelots Financial Security, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA 91608 and drawn from Deutsche Bank Trust Company Delaware, Wilmington, Delaware (Rt#421270, Acct# 031100380).  This letter was for the Euro Sweepstakes Lottery Program and sent from International Award Presentation, International Claims unit, 185 Shaw Street, Niagra Falls M7G-2T9.

Don't fall for the Mail crap!  It's illegal, it's FRAUD.  They'll steal your money, they'll clear out your account, they'll swipe your identity.

ASK YOURSELF ONE SIMPLE QUESTION:  Did I ENTER this??

I didn't get a call either just a letter saying to call Ron Clark at 1-604-725-9767.  The letter states that I'm one of the second category winners of the Euro sweepstakes lottery program.  There was a check enclosed for $3900.00.  The info on the check states Liberty Financial, Inc in Columbia, MD and it also states M & T Bank Baltimore, Maryland.  I promptly called the United States Postal Service and reported it as fraud.

Didn't get a call but got a letter with the EXACT same information as the post previous to mine stated...

I'm a "secondary category winner" (woo-hoo) I should call Ron Clark at 1-604-725-9767...sure.

Enclosed check for $3900.00 (of the $250,000 I've won in the Euro Sweepstakes Lottery Program) from Liberty Financial Inc. Columbia Maryland

Check is drawn on M&T Bank in Baltimore Maryland

These scammers need to be shut down...you can get in BIG trouble not investigating this stuff. I'm sure too many out there DO fall for this garbage.

These scammers need to be locked away.

same letter for 3,900 dollars. I knew it was a scam and checked the address online and sure enough it was. I called Ron Clark the first time just to tease him and said I caught him then hung up the phone. I called again a minute later and asked about the check and said I saw online it was a fraud and he told me if i believe its not real that he was going to give it away to charity. lol. his accent was kinda middle eastern but it sounded kinda fake. From now on any time i get bored im just going to call him up just to mess with him. lol.

I just got the exact same photocopied letter today with a check for $8900 and the contact again was Ron Clark @ 647-889-5077. I can't believe that they just keep trying even though they have to know that there are posts everywhere on the net to tell people to steer clear.
