In the past two months I have received numerous harassing phone calls from a debt collection company, NCC Business Services of America, located at 9428 Baymeadows Road, Suite 200, Jacksonville, Florida 32256,  Phone: (904) 733-3033.  I have no debts and have never been contacted by my correct name by mail or by phone referencing any unpaid debts.  Callers claim to be looking for some guy I have never heard of and will not stop calling despite repeated conversations.  I submitted complaints with the Ohio Attorney General's office and the FTC.  NCC replied in writing to the Ohio Attorney General's office that they would stop.  Soon after the date NCC said they would stop, I started getting calls from PRA (Portfolio Recovery Associates, 120 Corporate Boulevard, Norfolk, Virginia 23502,  (757) 519-9300 ) and also from this new telephone number 614-407-8495 with no Caller ID, all still asking for exactly the same person I have never heard of.  I presume this new number is being used by one of these two organizations and will now file amended and new complaints with the Ohio Attorney General's office and the FTC.  Whenever possible I record the conversations and attempt to get the person calling to state what company they represent. Then I tell them there is no one here by the name they mention, and finally ask them to state, for the record, that they will no longer call.  I also take a picture of the Caller ID on the phone and keep a running log on a spreadsheet as evidence of the harassment.  Without such objective proof these companies basically laugh off complaints.  After I have a sufficient record to give my complaints solid legal grounds, I will end the game by blocking the calls.  Note equipment that simply blocks past numbers will not work, since these folks continually switch originating numbers.  So I have also purchased some phone call blocking equipment (Amazon.com "Caller ID with Phone Ring Controller") that uses a "White List" strategy, where you enter the numbers you will allow to ring through and shunts all the rest either to an answering machine, or, if a number is placed on a second blocked list, just lets the phone "ring" forever for the blocked caller without ringing my phone.  Since our telephone number targeted for these harassing calls is unlisted and only used by my family members and close friends, the White List is relatively small, and this strategy should work pretty well.  Why go to all this trouble?  Because companies like this depend on sneaking by as a nuisance without ever facing solid evidence of their illegal activities.  There is no difference between them and some punk vandals trashing our neighborhoods.  The only way to stop them is zero tolerance.

I keep receiving phone calls from this number and no one is on the other end. I want them to stop as this is very annoying. If it continues I will get in touch w/the local police dept.

i keep getting calls from this number,no one says anything and no messages are left. by the messages from other people, it appears to be a debt or collection co. i have no debts.  i'd like for them stop calling. very annoying. maybe thats their point in calling. i tried to call the number,couldn't get through.

Thank you for this message!!  I have been getting calls from a company using a name that is not mine. I have called them numerous times and the calls stop for maybe a week, then start up again.  In the last month they have called every other week -- sometimes twice a day.  Always leaving messages.  I learned from my cable company (who my phone goes thru) how to block their numbers but guess what -- the next time they called it said PRIVATE CALLER.  Jerks.  I figure they looked in the phone book and only my first initial is listed, so they came up with some random name to ask for -- they do have my last name correct.  They also get quite attitudinal with my answering machine!!  So last week was the week they called daily, so looking forward to the coming week when the calls return again.  I think I may check out the item you mentioned.

I receive calls from this number often.  I never answer the phone unless I recognize the caller.  I am not in debt and these calls are extremely annoying!

I have had three calls from this number in less then a month.  After the first call, I added the number to a nice piece of software called "PhoneTray (Pro)" from www.Linksoft.com.  Every time they call now, the software answers the phone at the first ring.  You can even have a WAV file played to them.  A very nice collection is supplied, plus you can make your own.

They have a free version and a Pro version ($29.95 if I remember).

I just got a call from this number, but they said they were looking for people in the area to test a new security device.  They asked for me by name, and I refused to discuss with them.  I am not trusting the security of my home to a company that I don't seek or that has an unlisted number for their sales.  No way.

They call me all the time.  Leave no message.  I called back and it is First Defense Security.

actually it appears to be an overseas call center calling through that number for many businesses.

They asked if I was the home owner. I said no then they asked to speak to the home owner.  I told them I rented the house (yes, I do own it).  She said ok, bye.  By looking at the other comments, it probably is a home security company (and no way would I ever give them my info from a solicited call).

Me "hello"   Him "Hi is this _____?  Me  "could be"      Him " I am with ?SBS? *something like that. he said it to unclearly.  He started talkig and I interrupted him into about 6 words.  So I said   "take us off the calling list"   And then I hung up.  The call came in at 7:53 pm/ Tuesday night.  Caller ID said Out of Area.

received call asking if we had an alarm system? Why would I give that info to a stranger?

"you and 10 of your neighbors just won a GE security system, so congratulations". Said we had system, thanks for the call.

"You and 10 of your neighbors were selected to try a new wireless GE security system".  Said we already had a system.  Caller tried a couple different approaches and I finally said "I already said we had a system that we were happy with" and thanked them for their call.  Next time I will not be as nice.  Called at 8:45 on a Thursday night.

Call from a service that claimed they could raise my business' status on Google. I asked why they were making illegal sales calls.  They denied it was illegal.  So I responded with an appropriate obscenity and hung up.
