Received phone call at 12:45 pm EDT 11-19-09. Caller said I was being sued by Nashville Gen Hosp, Nashville, Tenn. for $134.50 for a bill on
Dec 11-07. Contacted VA office, they told me all bills have been paid. I have never received any billing from this hospital for any service since it was done through the VA. VA says that I do not owe these people  anything. Sounds to me like this collection agency is out to make a fast buck. I pay all my debts but I refuse to pay for anything I don't owe

I don't know how these people found my number!  I have an unlisted, unpublished TN that we don't give out to anyone but immediate family and we know they didn't give that number out!!!  I already sent them a cease and desist letter so they have no business calling!!!!  I've been making payments once a month towards my outstanding hospital bill.  I get $100 a month to disperse between 11 medical payments. That's all I can do!!!  I guess it's time to change my TN again!!!  I can't have them calling day and night!!!  And I don't need to hear any crap about "well if you paid your bill you wouldn't get called" because I don't need it!!!  I'm doing what I can with what little I have!! At least I'm making payments!

I got a phone call at 8:40 last night. If this is a collection agency, then why don't they call at a decent hour. I'm not answering any calls that time of night.

By law they are allowed to call from 8AM-9PM local time:

Section 805(a): Collection calls to consumers ( AKA Debtors )

Unless you consent or a court order permits, debt collectors may not call to collect a debt:

(1). at any time or place which is unusual or known to be inconvenient to you. 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. is presumed to be convenient...

Called my house, hung up on answering system, called my cell and hung up then called the house phone AGAIN - and of course hung up again! !
Ridiculous.  I understand they're "just doing their job" and so forth, but leave the information and stop calling multiple times and being pests.  I KNOW I owe the bill - remind me and be done with it for today.
    UGH!

They are only allowed to call people once and leave a message.  By calling numerous times and not leaving messages they feel they are within law.  If you were to ever talk to them you would tell them they are in violation of the FDCPA.  They can only call once a day. And if they...call you at work-
Under 1692b they can only call to verify your location information. If you tell them you aren’t allowed to get calls at work they must stop calling. They can’t say you owe a debt, or call more than once. Many clients tell us the collector calls their work repeatedly. This is a violation of the FDCPA and should be pursued with a consumer attorney.  A debt collector calls me 10 times a day. I asked him to stop but he said he’s going to call me repeatedly until I pay. Is that legal?

No. It violates 1692d(5) “engaging any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with the intent to annoy, abuse or harass”

If and only if you didn't give them permission to call your cell phone is it a violation.

What about calling my cell phone? I don’t know how they got my number. I never gave it to anyone or permission to call it.

This is a violation of both the FDCPA and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, 47 U.S.C. 227(b)(1)(A) and entitles you to statutory damages, for each and every violation. If this is happening to you CALL US IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS A SERIOUS VIOLATION.

I have no idea how or where these people got my number but I don't owe anything that they are asking for. My phone constantly rings day and night from these jerks. I and my spouse are not in the best of health and this has gone on for too long and has gone too far. I want these creeps to STOP calling and harrassing me. They never leave a message and it's not even a person placing the call. It asks me to remain on the line and someone will talk to me shortly. Yeah, Right!!!

Make a copy of the bill from metro general hospital and any paperwork you get from their collection agency and make sure you send just copies, keep originals. Send copies of both along with a letter that the care was  arranged thru the VA and the VA has told you that you dont owe it.
Keep a copy of your letter also.

Send letter, and other paperwork I mentioned  to Metro General Hospital Billing Office.
In your letter explain who / where/ what number you spoke to at the VA  who told u that u dont owe anything.  Send this by regular U.S. Mail First Class
    ___________________________________________________________________________________

At the same time, send an exact copy of the same paperwork I mentioned  to the VA Hospital  Administration. Send this by  U.S. MAIL CERTIFIED MAIL , RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED
about 5.00 and worth it. You will have proof you notified them of the problem
    __________________________________________________________________________________

Keep copies of everything you receive for a creditor, and  anything you send to a creditor .

Always remember, collection agencies  LIE !
Always refer to any debt one says you owe as  ALLEGED DEBT.
Never give collection agencies any personal info or answer questions over the phone ! NEVER

Tell them to put everything in writing in that you don't do business over the telephone.
They tell you one thing, promise things and they do another.

Never pay a collection agency collection bill by check , whether check by phone or real paper check.
I mean never !  Always pay with a postal money order.
Never use a credit or debit card either. They want u to make payment arrangements for x amount and give them your checking account number or credit/debit card number. NEXT thing you know is , they are trying to charge or withdraw more from your bank account than agreed on.
That is happened to thousands on thousands of people .
So always pay by postal money order. NEVER GIVE ANY INFORMATION TO A COLLECTION AGENCY THAT THEY DONT ALREADY HAVE.

p.s. dont forget to get those letters out in the mail. sooner you let the VA and metro general know something is wrong the quicker it is taken care of. getting on here and talking about it does nothing !
this bulletin board has no connection with va or metro general .

With copies of all your letters and such, if they do sue you , you will have proof you tried to remedy the problem. I agree, it shouldnt be your responsibility to do their administrative work , billing work for them.

    Good Luck

It's a collection agency that collects for hospitals nationwide. That's why it's a Nashville, TN number on your phone but they give a toll free number for you to call back. It's normal. Stop thinking your bills are scams and do better.
