Sure you can.  Just buy a call-blocking device for your landline or use an app for your smart-phone.

THey have called twice, once from this number in Michigan, once from a different number in Texas.  I hung up on the Texas one, and the one today from Michigan I tried to get more information. They said that my computer is sending tons of error and warning messages to the "international" something or anther department. He said that they are calling from "quarna?" security, they work for Microsoft and Dell.  He had an accent, so I couldn't understand everything.  He said they had my address and name, I asked him what he had for my address. It was the correct address, which was scary.  He said "you don't know your own address?!"   Obviously a scam, I just wanted to see what it was about so I kept him talking. He kept explaining that my computer was sending error messages to this international center.  I asked for a phone number so that I could call back, and verify where he was calling from.  He seemed annoyed, but I kept pressing. He said if I was in front of a computer, I could go to a website and verify where he was calling from. I didn't do that, as clearly that's what he wanted me to do. I kept pressing him for a phone number where I could call him back after I verified who he was, and I asked for his name.  All of a sudden he "couldn't hear me" and kept just saying numbers that clearly weren't a phone number. I told him never to call him again, and hung up.  Phew!  I'm SO glad I didn't go to the website!

Good thing you did not go to that website. Chances are near 100% you would have infected your computer with malware unless you have a very good anti-malware software installed in what is known as a "drive by infection".  You do not even have to click on any links on those type of websites to get infected, merely loading the page is sufficient.

For the lurkers, there is no such thing as an International Center or Server that receives error messages from computers.  Microsoft does not initiate tech support calls. In addition, any error messages sent from your computer to Microsoft are sent anonymously and only if you elect to send them when the popup window appears. Windows does not send out errors without your permission.

Had a call from this number today, saying that every time I logged on to the internet they were receiving messages that there was a problem with the computer.

When I asked where they were calling from I was told "London", - the caller display showed it wasn't a London number. Also call quality was too poor to be a UK call.

Very obviously a scam so please watch out.

This number called my mother today with the same "something's wrong with your computer" scam.  Whoever they are, they're still at it.

I got a call on my cell phone from this number showing location in Michigan today.  I didn't answer and no message was left.  A couple weeks ago I got a call from "Anonymous" on the caller ID that sounds like other posts here.  It was a man with a heavy foreign accent saying he was calling from some company about my computer.  I asked what computer, and he said "the one you use."  Obviously it was a scam so I hung up.

Receiving 4-5 calls related to this every day for the past week. Call-blocking devices for the landline are useless in this case. This is because when blocked, the next call is from a different area code containing the same prefix of "555 - XXXX".

this number just called me and the guy says this is Microsoft and I am call you about the problem with your computer.  I said you are not Microsoft and I don't have a problem.  I proceeded to tell him that he was a scammer and that I was going to report him.  He then says if you give me a job so I don't have to scam people.  Then he said a few F*** and other*** words and I hung up on him.
