I did not answer the call.  How can they possibly make any money if people don't answer?  Wondering how much these people get paid to sit and do nothing.

just silence

Got this call during dinner.  Didn't answer, but they left a message on the machine.  Caller ID said National Teleco, 617-778-0551.  Wanted to let us know there are jobs available, some to work at home on your computer.  REITRED!!!!  NOT INTERESTED!!!!  And an unwanted phone call isn't the way I'd be looking for a job offer. . . .

Got a call from this number, an UNSOLICITED call. How did they get my number

I thought the do not call list was supposed to stop these types of  bullcrap phone calls. They call my home several times per week, but it's not important enough to leave a message! I do not make purchases over the phone.  Whoever came up with the stupid idea of telemarketing needs kicked in the plums!

Nope.   The Do Not Call Registry was set up by the FTC to work with only legitimate businesses who wished to not violate the privacy of citizens by  providing them a list of those who did not wish to receive their telemarketing calls.  It is still set for that purpose today.  It only provides that list to those businesses who are registered with the FTC,  and they purchase the list so that they can honor the requests of those who are on it.  It uses the honor system and those legitimate companies who are registered with the FTC do in fact honor the list and are held accountable if they don't to the tune of 16K per violation.   It was never intended as a law enforcement tool or anything else.  It does not monitor phone lines,  block calls,   or chase after Scammers or those who may not be scammers but are not registered within the FTC data base.   Complaints other than against registered businesses are reported to other government entities such as the FCC.  If reported to the DNC registry,  it is not their responsibility and goes into File 13.
