- dead, not sleeping| 1 replyCalled my cell 12:33 pm Central: No message. Another web-site identifies this as Portfolio Recovery, a debt collection agency of dubious legality.

- Dave| 2 repliesThis number calls me every day never leaves a message. How do I stop it anyone?
- Caller: Portfolio Recovery
- the master| 1 replythey will never leave a message, as they are hoping to get a live person on the line in an attempt to strong arm information out of you. they will ask for you(or whoever they are looking for) by your first name only and volunteer no information about who they are and where/why they are calling. the true purpose of the call will only become clear if they believe they have located the correct person.
report all unknown, annoying calls to the FCC via the web. easy and fast to do. simply fill out the online form with the call details. keep a log of times/dates they call and add all of the information to your complaint. they might switch to a different number but log that too and add to your complaints each and every time they call referencing the original complaint reference number you have.- Caller: most likely Portfolio recovery

- Jack Bgot a call on my cell. wanted to know information about someone else... I have a recycled phone number and I am sure they are looking for who ever had this before me... they are very persistent....even went so far as to almost call me a liar... They never did identify themselves or what they wanted... I don't think this is a legitimate company if it is that.. and I will not provide them any information...They won't tell me.. I will not tell them..
- jimthis is NCO report them
- R| 1 replysame thing happens to me, the same company is calling me and then the next day will switch to different number. I never answer so they are trying to trip me up I suppose. I don't owe a damn thing, must be prior owner of cell phone number. I just list the number as Bill Collector on contact list and set to no ring. Problem is I have a growing list of Bill Collector numbers. Up to 18 now. Eventually, will change numbers but until then they can call till the cows come home. Fornicate em.

- Danged Tired of Them| 2 repliesThis number calls repeatedly. Asks for someone I take messages for but won't give a detailed message only says it is a "business matter." Told them unless they are more specific I won't transfer the message since they could be a salesperson with that response.

The top five execs for that company make from $340,000.00 to $840,000.00 per year and they also have stock that they can exercise. According to their own website: "Portfolio Recovery Associates, Inc. “PRA” and its subsidiaries purchase and manage portfolios of defaulted and bankrupt consumer receivables and provide a broad range of accounts receivable management services to lenders, service providers, governments, and others. The Company combines a disciplined approach to portfolio acquisitions with a long-term view of collections and a commitment to continuous innovation. We have created a rewarding organization for our employees, who produce exceptional results for our investors and clients alike."
I've also seen rumors that they go fishing for information on other people if your name is in some way connected to one of their files. Next time they call I'm going to tell them to put it in writing and to stop calling. Nine pm at night is way too late to be calling by this type of company. - not for meAfter numerous hangups on my answering machine and myself, a woman again called asking for someone at 6pm on a Sunday. When I said she had the wrong number, and who is this, she stated Mrs. Williams, and I said well don't call this number again because I dont know you. She cut me short and said 'well do you know this person'. That aggravated me so I told her again to quit calling because they hang up on me all the time. She ended with "I don't call and hang up I ask for the person who I want, and I'm going to hang up now and you have a better day than you are having." Hmmm well I'm having a much better day now after that condescending comment, and even a much better day because maybe, just maybe, she won't call again today.

- JerodGreatest thing ever made. My wife bought a phone at Radio shack. It can hold up to 100 phone numbers and automatically block them. I simply have entered all these crackpots into the phone and one by one, they get blocked. It sure makes things nice at home. We have only had our number about a year, but whomever had it before us, must have some debts.
Back to the phone. It's a panasonic, and I manually enter the numbers I want to block. The phone will chirp when a blocked number calls. If you look at the caller ID, it says blocked call and tells you who it was. I highly recommend getting one. It sure makes life much better.
Good bye scum bag telemarketers.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery
- SugarI kept getting calls from this number and finally picked up the phone one day when I was home. The guy was totally obnoxious and harassing and accused me of being someone I'm not. They are looking for someone who has the same last name as I do. I've had this phone number for 35 years so there is no excuse for this or possibility for confusion. When I explained this politely to him, he got more and more obnoxious. It seemed like he was one of those bottom feeder debt collectors who works on commission. It's horrible how they behave when they don't even have the correct number. It's a waste of everyone's time and temper.

- JaniceI received a call from this number today. When I answered the person on the other end immediately started asking for personal information - I hadn't even said who I was! I politely asked him to identify himself and he told me he was with Portfolio Recovery to collect a delinquent debt and demanded a credit card account number or checking information. I told him to back up and explain what the debt was and he told me he needed my information first. I don't think so. I asked to speak with a supervisor and he said he was the supervisor. Well, I said, then you should know better and hung up on him. My next step is to go to Radio Shack and purchase the Panasonic phone that blocks numbers like this one. RUDE!
