This person with a heavy India(n) accent claimed he was calling my wife because of a case involving her.  No real details.  Implied that he was a district attorney or from that office.  Implied that the matter was an illegal matter and I blocked the number with my computer program called Audio Caller ID. Next time this fool calls he'll get a earful of static.

I started getting this call from (620) 842-8118, (916) 426-2859, (414) 301-7782, all from the same guy, strong Indian Accent, gives different names, claims to me an attorney from the States Attorney General's Office,as well as a Law Office in Sacramento, CA. He demands my attorney's contact information to contact him/her regarding a pay day loan I refusted to pay back to his client. I dont have any pay day loans ! He does not give a proper introduction, wont provide any details of a case, nothing. He's called my cell phone and calls my work # daily, up to 10 times a day, claims he is coming to my work and home, and I am being investigated and will be arrested. When I press for details he hangs up on me. I call back and he continues to hang up on me when I demand he cease & desist from contacting me ever. Clearly, this is a scam and an aggrivating one at that. Anyone else that continues to get these phone numbers should proide them to thier local Police Department for assistance as well as report them to the States Attorney Generals Office and any other office that protects consumers from fraud.

I am receiving the same call from this gentlemen with a strong indian accent. He claims that I need to call him regarding a payday loan that I owe and he needs to talk to my lawyer. Also I have many people with the same accent calling about taking out a pay day loan. I am on the do not call registry and I need to know how to get this to stop.

Your best bet is to forcefully tell him that you know he's nothing but a low-life fraud. Tell him he's wasting his time. He'll get all irate. He'll probably harass you & your family and friends for a while. He'll go away when he figures out that he'll get nothing from you. He's just a foreign piss-ant!
Warn everyone that you're being targeted by a worthless fraud. Tell them to laugh at him. Scum-bags like this try fear first, then harassment. They're nothing. Treat them as such.
    Live Well.

The call has all the trappings of an extortion attempt. Don't give in to scammers. Legit debt collectors will identify their company name and inform their relation with your original lender (if you had one)

If you are back on any payment, contact the original lender and deal directly. The caller may not even be aware about your loan. These crooks fly trial balloons to hook people who might be delinquent and hence are likely to fall for the scam.

Don't give your address. Instead ask them to repeat the address. To such scam callers never admit any payment default.

You cannot be arrested for defaulting on a payday loan. You should report the lender’s threat to your state attorney general. You can also submit a complaint with the CFPB at (www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/) or by calling 1-855-411-CFPB (2372).
If a lender has OBTAINED A JUDGEMENT against you and you ignore an order to appear in court, a judge may issue a warrant for your arrest. In this case the warrant is issued not because you defaulted on payday loan but because you refused to appear in court.

To obtain a judgment, the lender has to commence civil court proceedings (not criminal) and you will be very much aware because you will receive formal court notices in mail. A judgment will not happen out of the blue.

If someone is calling and threatening to have you arrested or wage garnished because you had a delinquent loan, its nothing but an attempt to extort money. You should strongly refute and inform the caller that you are aware of extortion scams and the call is being taped and will be reported to the Police and not to call you in future.

We received a call from this number today. They were asking for my husband, I asked if I could take a message and was told that it was a legal matter and they could not talk to me, to have him call asap. This is a scary situation to me. We have had to use payday loans to get money to get our son out of trouble, but have been very careful to pay them off as soon as we could. I know we are not in default on them. We are in Ohio. Don't they have to notify you in writing before taking legal action?

I received the same call and yes they have have to notify you. I called my state's attorney general and they gave me the more information. The caller told me how the police was going to come to my job and arrest me. So at this point I'm like man was loan have I taken out. The caller then told me that, I've sign an agreement and it stated that if I cancel, before taking the funds, I have to pay a cancellation fee of $200 dollars or get arrest and have to pay $8,000 when I go to court.

Bottom line, ff someone is calling and threatening to have you arrested or wage garnished because you had a delinquent loan, its nothing but an attempt to extort money. You should strongly refute and inform the caller that you are aware of extortion scams and the call is being taped and will be reported to the Police and not to call you in future.

I just got a call from the same number same guy- John Smith-620-842-8118. When he was telling me that he was from an attorneys office, I thought, I have talked to this same guy a few months back. He accused me of having a payday loan and I would be arrested if I didn't go to court and take care of it. Well back ten when he called, he scared the crap out of me. But I did figure out that it was a scam. He called the other day and left a message, I didn't call him back. So he called today again and started with his little speech-I stopped him dead in his tracks and told him that I have talked to him before and he is all bs and to not call me again!!! [***], thinks he can get money from me, and intimidate me like that!! I get so sick of these foreigners thinking they are so smart!! This guy has been doing this for a long time. It is time to stop it!! He must be getting money from people and that's why he is still doing it. I am going to call the attorney general and whoever else I can find that will listen to me!! Don't listen to this idiot, he is a fraud-don't let him get you!!
