This guy named Steve keeps calling asking for someone who does not live here...He states he will keep calling.....

Had the same person call me. They will not stop calling me. They told me God have mercy in my soul if I don't pay me debt. I have no debt with this person and have no clue has to what he is talking about. I have contacted the local FBI but I am still receiving phone calls. I am at my wits end. I have received 5 calls today!!

Consumer Alert: Attorney General warns Kansans of debt collection scam

January 29, 2010 -- Attorney General Steve Six is cautioning Kansas consumers about telephone calls from apparent fake debt collectors who are impersonating law enforcement officers in an effort to extort money from consumers.   Consumers are warned to not submit payments to these fraudulent debt collectors.

When calling, the scammers most often state they are attempting to collect a debt related to an internet payday loan obtained by the consumer, but which the consumer never repaid.  Consumers state they have never obtained such a loan or paid off the loan years ago.  The scam artists have most recently identified themselves as ACS, National Affidavit Processing Department and United Financial Crime Division, but may use additional phony names.  It appears the phone numbers used by the scammers are “spoofed” numbers, so that the number appearing on a consumer’s caller ID is not the actual number of where the call originated. It appears the calls in question may be originating from outside the United States.

When questioned, the individual calling refuses to disclose the full name or address of the collection agency they claim to represent.  These scammers have been able to provide consumers with identifying information, such as the consumer’s social security number, home address, e-mail address, names of family members and the consumer’s computer IP address.  Since the callers are able to provide valid personal information, consumers may become confused and believe they are being contacted in regard to a legitimate debt.

If the initial debt collection scam is unsuccessful, consumers have been re-contacted months later with the scammers posing as law enforcement officers or officers of the court.  Typically, the consumer is threatened with arrest for fraud or some other fictitious crime unless the consumer agrees to immediately wire money via Western Union.  The fictitious officers strive to frighten and confuse consumers into compliance by using legal sounding terms such as “We’re filing an affidavit against you” or by stating a lawsuit has been or is in the process of being filed against the consumer.

A hallmark of each scam has been calling consumers repeatedly at their place of employment.  This scam hit home when an employee of the Kansas Attorney General’s Office was repeatedly called both on her cell phone and at work.  Despite the employee’s repeated verbal disputes, the caller refused to provide any identifying information to allow her to send a written dispute. The scammer also continued to call her numerous times a day regarding a payday loan she denied obtaining. Two months later, she was again contacted by telephone by an individual identifying himself as an “officer”.

“I denied owing the debt and refused to pay without being provided validation of the debt. I was then told, ‘If that’s the case, I will have local law enforcement come to your place of business and drag you out kicking and screaming’,” stated the employee.

“It is important for consumers to know their rights under the law,” Attorney General Six said. “If a consumer is receiving calls from a debt collection company and believe it is a scam, I encourage them to contact our office immediately.”

Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), collectors are required to send consumers a written notice within five days of the initial contact.  The notification should contain  information such as the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed and a statement informing the consumer they have thirty days to contact the debtor in writing to dispute the debt or request validation of the debt. In addition, legitimate debt collectors are prohibited by the FDCPA from making false or misleading representations, such as the consumer has committed a crime, implying nonpayment will result in the consumer’s arrest, or using the threat of violence.

Recieved call from 626-227-0276 A guy named Melvin from the bahamas. Said he needed some information and my attorney's name on record. did not give him any information. He did call me at work. Don't know how he got my number.

BEWARE!!!!!!!  Recieved message  from 626-227-0276 at my wifes work re a lawsuit.  AI called and asked who they were. She made the mistake of  saying from the bahamas. With her accent I was suspect anyway. Said we are being sued.  Which they use to make you worried.  It started with asking my surname and it would eventuall y lead to trying to get our SS #.  She hung up as I questioned why the would need anything.  They  should have that info if they are involved in the lawsuit.

I then called again and pretended to be one of them( heavy accent etc) and he got pissed and asked if i worked there called me a dumbass and hung up lol
ttoal scammers people please don't give them anything, remember these are usually prepaid cell phones so keep em talking and waste their money.

For the past six months or so, I have been receiving phone calls on my cell phone from someone with an Indian accent (yet strangely named "Eric Johnson") who claims to be searching for "Douglas Poole."  I have had my phone number since 2006, so I was quite suspicious, although I suspected that some con man just wrote down my number on a loan application.  Now I see that it's a scam.

At first I would call back and clarify that I do not know any Douglas Poole and would appreciate having my phone number deleted from their records.  Every month or so, however, I would receive a new battery of phone calls.  I have gotten increasingly blunt about asking for confirmation that they have deleted my phone number, and will let them know next time that I have reported them online and will be contacting the Better Business Bureau, too.

The phone number only appears as "234" on my Caller ID, but they do request that I call them back at the number above.

I have gotten several calls over the last few days. They claim to be from 'DCA law' and are calling about a payday loan. I find it funny that they get people with the worst accents to pretend to be american lawyers with the world's worst fake names. I swear the one the other day gave me the name of the guy from 16 candles. Lol!  
This isn't the first time it's happened, it keeps coming up every few months. I usually ignore them and they go away. This time, they called my work so I got upset.
I called them back, and tried to play nice for a few minutes. I asked what it was regarding, and all they would tell me was a payday loan from something called 'global credit services.' I looked this company up, and they do financing for major companies, not payday loans.
I asked this company- 'dca law' for their website and was told they don't have one. First red flag, what company doesn't have a website? Morons.
Then I asked for details on this supposed debt. They had my email wrong, couldn't give me a date or name of the place I got this loan from, or any relevant details. I told them I would be more than happy to pay any valid debts if they would just give me facts. That got them mad, and they just kept repeating the same info they gave me before- a fake company and an amount. When I told them I wasn't paying the $900 they wanted, the threats started: we'll send cops to your work, we'll call your boss and tell them what kind of person you are, we'll send cops to your house to arrest you, you better get a lawyer, you're in big trouble... blah blah blah.
I told them that I'd look into the 'finance company' for the details, and they got even more upset telling me that the company 'wouldn't entertain my calls.' Whatever...

I am getting calls at work stating that I owe a PAYDAY loan from back in Augusu 2010. Very heavily accented man kept telling me that I got this $500 and that I needed to pay it back. Went to my bank just to make sure nobody had put money into my account which I was sure they hadn't but needed the paperwork to prove it. I didn't get any payday loan and am wondering how they got my work phone number and my checking account number. They have never called me at home only work.

Same as everyone else. Why can't our government do anything about this!!

Someone keep callin my gf about a payday loan that I kno she didn't get.they have all her info but some of its wrong.n she like a women was gonna give her info to these ppl I tolf her it was fake but she don't believe me.how do I turn these ppl in n to whom.

I just got a phone call today at my home for my mom. It was from 626-227-0276, he using the name jack williams. The dude would not stop calling so me and my son was having some fun with the dude when he answered the phone the guy proceeded to leave a message on the answering machine saying he wanted the address to come "F" my mother. Then the dude proceeded to even call back and by then I was ticked and Bitched the guy out. He really like the next time he calls I have whistle now. THis is a scam please don't give them any information!

Ask caller if they give out loans, if their answer is no then ask them why they are calling if it's not possible that they give out loans. The guy told me his name was John Devins. I called them back and asked them to fax me the information that they have and they said they would, but never did! Call them back and question them!

I have received several threatening calls from this number indicating that I owe money from a payday loan.  They threaten to come to my place of business and/or home as well as pressing charges against me.  I fell for this before and won't do it again.

The message is from someone named Eric Johnson, however, when I called back, the person who answered said his name was Kevin Johnson.

A Chris Wilson keeps calling in at work and on my cell phone. He says he is in a Legal Department for some company. First off this man has no right calling me at work let alone my cell phone. He called me 7 times yesterday at work also another 10 times on my cell phone. He said I need to pay a 1000.00 on a paid loan. The address he gave I haven't lived in 6 years. And When I lived the may Apt was broken into and my walet was taken. This man wasn't hearing it he wanted my SS number because he only has the last 4 number. I told him if he kept calling me at work I was going to get fired, he said he wanted to talk to my manager and he would see that I did get fired, he didn't have time to play with me he wanted the money. And our police department would be at my job to take me in. This crap needs to stop, before I do get fired over something I had nothing to do with.

Again today with the phone calls at work. I spoke to a Kevin Jonhson and he said he was from a legal department from Ca. For the past week I have gotten call from a Sam, Chris Wilson, and now a Kevin Johnson. These people are pushy and rude. I got written up here at my job because they won't stop calling me. I don't know who they are but I'm getting tired of this. I was told today if they didn't stop calling here I wouldn't have a job tomorrow. Someone please tell me how to stop this crap.

Been getting messages from a Robert Coleman for weeks. Says his company is gonna sue me for $2000+attourney fees for a payday loan... That never existed! Phone number was 626-227-0276, wanted me to send them a copy of my bank statement to prove i don't owe. Fax number was 646-219-2997. Needless to say, they're getting no info from me!
