Received 2 calls from this number this morning.  It is someone with a heavy accent stating that he is calling on behalf of the US government or treasury about penalties and fines....oh yeah, if you get the call you will be sure that the government would not be having this person call.  Sounds like a scammer to me.

I just got the same call. Told me i owed federal taxes and they were coming to take me away. Here's the funny thing....i called them back using *67 so they could not see my number. I asked them who they were and they hung up 3 times, showing that they did not want the call to focus on them giving away any info. when i called back a 4th time, i gave them a bogus number with a "555" NPX, which is an invalid "middle 3 digits" of a phone number reserved for use in tv's and movies. they took the bait as well as a phony name and insisted i owed lots of money and they were coming to take me away. I think this scam is about ID theft, with them getting your phone number and as much info as they can from you...don't fall for it

Got the same ridiculous message as others here, coming to arrest me.  If they were smart they would use a better caller id, maybe one of those spoof things saying IRS or grand jury or something.  Hard to believe any of these calls actually pay off for them.

This man with a heavy accent (India) said I owed a debt and must return the call immediately or go before a judge. He left to messages previously and today called I did not answer then within a few minutes called back I answered. It was a automated message to call him back at the same #. Pretty sure its a scam as I don't owe any money.

A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed ... not emailed or texted]

    Source:
    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

I received two call already in one day.  Where is this call generated from? Same heavy accent that can barely understand.  I hate scammers!!!!!  I cursed him out, but of course it was a recording so nobody was actually on the other line.  What happens if I call them back? I want to curse them up so bad!!!!!!!

Don't bother calling back. They are extortion scammers and will curse and try to intimidate you into paying a bogus non existent bill. Consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.

Report the Calls to the real IRS here:
•report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

I have received 3 calls in 2 days from a message machine, saying that I had an outstanding debt to the Federal Government, and would have to appear before a federal magistrate. But if I called them back, they would be able to "help" me. Figured it was a crock, but when I found quite a few posts regarding this number, I am now sure that it is a total scam.
