Recorded call (illegal to have recorded calls in our state) from very forceful person with heavy Indian accent using the name Martin (could not understand first name) claiming that we would be brought before a "judge magistrate" if we did not return the call to this number and straighten out our tax debt to the IRS.

    Scam as well
Just received the same call as well. The IRS will not call you, as you will get USPS mail with any claims.

I just got the same call, too, and let it go to voice mail.  They used a lot of scary words.  And threw in the "US Treasury."  It seems very wrong to scare people into calling for your scam.

Just got call 10 minutes ago.  Could not even hang up, as every time I tried to get a dial tone to call the number [to curse the SOB out] the same BS was repeating over and over again.  When I finally got a dial tone and made the call, I got a answering machine which did not let me leave the very nasty message I intended, because it was full.  I guess I will have to be satisfied with just wiping this piece of "you know what" off the bottom of my shoe.

SCAM - BEWARE:  "Mike Johnson" of the "U.S. Treasury" called to say there is an enforcement action against me. I told him that I would be contacting the real U.S. Treasury to verify that he is their employee. He hung up immediately.

I received a message on my home phone from this number. A male individual,  with a very heavy Indian accent, stated that he was calling from the US Treasury Dep't to help me with my debt to the IRS. He stated his name, but the accent was so strong that I could not understand it. I called the number, and was given a whole song and dance about how I have unpaid taxes with the IRS, and that a warrant has been issued for my arrest. I asked him to give the date for when the warrant was issued, and he said "just now." I said that I had not received any notices from the IRS about any back, unpaid taxes, so he seemed surprised by that and said. "You did not?"Then he told me that an officer would be at my door within 45 minutes to arrest me.  So I  hung up. Then I called the number back, and got someone by the supposed name of Kevin Daniels on the phone, again with a very strong Indian accent.. I told him that I was going to report him to the police, so he hung up on me. Then I decided to check the number on the internet, and saw that this number is attached to a scam.

Just received the same call and let it go to voicemail. Threatening me of a criminal offense with the US treasury. I received a similar call yesterday from a California # 760-666-8462. I reported that call to the Federal Trade Commission. This person needs to be threatened by someone who has the chance. Same person different numbers now.

It's just after 2:00pm on Saturday and I just got a message from "Steve Martin" from U.S. Treasury Department basically imploring me to call about "enforcement actions executed by U.S. Treasury intending your serious attention" and something about appearing before a magistrate or grand jury for "a federal criminal offense". I called back, knowing that it's most likely a scam since I have no criminal background and have received no legal papers saying I'm being sued, and just to see who would answer. Got "Cathy Brown" at "Department of Legal Affairs". I told her they had just called. She asked if I was (name). I told her I wasn't. She seemed like she didn't know what to say. Sounded like a call center and both people had Indian sounding accents. I hung up.

Two calls today from this number, same story as several above.  My wife called back and did not get through,.  I advise not to ever call back, just Google the phone number along with the word "scam", you get lots of hits and can learn much more from that than from invloving yourself in bizarre conversations.  Let someone else do that.  I would much rather read about "...an officer would be at my door within 45 minutes to arrest me" than to run my BP up hearing it myself.

It would be worthwhile to know: has anyone a clue as to why this Indian-accented bunch are making these calls?  Is it spear-phishing for more ID info, or looking for ways to get $ sent for their services, or what?

You might want to look into call blocking device. There are a number of models available. Do some reasearch to find the one that fits your needs.

In the meantime, you should reort the calls to the following.

Just got home to a message from about 1:30 this afternoon from "Steve Martin" who told me that I was needed to appear before a Judge Magistrate and I needed to call this number so he could help me out with my federal criminal offense.  Don't think I'll be calling him.  I do believe if I was in any way involved in a serious offense, I wouldn't be here on the computer, I'd be somewhere much safer and not dealing with Mr. Heavy Indian Accent.
