- Exasperated| 4 repliesJust got a call from Steve Martin with a heavy Indian accent claiming to be from the IRS threatening no one in particular at the receiving end. The caller ID states "Alhambra, CA". This fraudulent caller has been posted on other sites. The IRS does not phone people and threaten them. If you are concerned, call the IRS directly and find out for yourself but please DO NOT call this phony back. This ongoing scam has people reacting out of fear and giving out personal information through intimidation. Exact wording from answering machine is: "Hi this message is intended to contact you. My name is Steve Martin and I'm calling regarding an enforcement action executed by US Treasury intending (sic) your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a Grand Jury or a Federal Criminal Offense. My number is 626-692-8405. I'll repeat 626-692-8405. I'd like you to cooperate with us and help us to help you. Thank you."

- ExasperatedThis Steve Martin is sure busy today. In fact he has been calling all sorts of people on another number today using 714-982-7609 with the caller ID saying Placentia CA. Apparently he did not appreciate it when I blocked this Alhambra CA number earlier today (10:57am) and decided to move to Placentia CA and try me on the new number at 2:43pm. He used the same wording in a slightly different order on 714-982-7609 but essentially again threatening an unknown person who is the recipient of the call with a bogus US Treasury enforcement action.
- relievedSCAM ALERT!!!
I received this same telephone call message from a "Steve Martin" in an Indian accent warning about appearing before a grand jury/magistrate etc. and that he wants to help and that it's the second attempt to avoid legal action, etc., etc.
Hogwash, phony boloney!!!!! Disregard this scam artist as he apparently has been doing this all over the country to thousands of gullible people to get their personal information in order to "help" them.
Do not return his call and certainly do not give out your personal information!!!!! - TennesseeReceived the exact same message and the exact same person!
- Also frustratedReceived the same message, same exact person Steve Martin. When I called him back he questioned me about my taxes, I started questioning him and he hung up on me. It is a total scam. Did not give out any personal info.

IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail. - SteveMartinLMAOI love his voicemail, says he is with the US department of Treasury. I called him back left a message told him never to call me again and that I would be looking into filing charges against him if the calls continued. I told him I would also be contacting the FBI. Guess what, he called me back, I tried calling him back again, Two rings and went to voicemail. The only problem for law enforcement is locating this guy, because like always I am sure his numbers are spoofed.

- GJI just made a mistake in identifying my name with my phone number to this fraud, as I had an identity theft issue with someone using my name in CA, so I thought it could be real. I looked up the number here and found a very similar calls with the same script - so it is obviously the same fraud attempt, just using a different name! '--- Just got a call from Steve Martin with a heavy Indian accent claiming to be from the treasury dept. The caller ID states "White Jackson". I have found out that the IRS does not phone people and threaten them. Wording from the message is: "Hi this message is intended to contact you. My name is Steve Martin and I'm calling regarding an enforcement action executed by US Treasury. This is your second notice (I had not gotten similar calls before). Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge for a Federal Criminal Offense. My number is 626-692-8405. Repeat 626-692-8405. Voice mail today [February 4] at 3:49 pm from 747.201.9800 [Burbank, CA]. Message is garbled, but essentially appears to be a solicitation to help me avoid an appearance before a Magistrative (sic) Judge or Grand Jury to respond to a Federal criminal offense. Something about Treasury Bills...unintelligible speech. Essential that I call so that "they" can help me.
The caller did not address me by name. Lots of background chatter.
The caller identified himself as "Steve M-something". Foreign accent -- maybe Middle Eastern.
I did not return the call. I'm thinking scam. Thought you should be advised of this.
Appreciate your reply and input. Happy to help any way that I can.
Thanks.

D.A.'s office has not called or emailed me as of February 15. Maybe more than one email complaint is necessary for the D.A. to take notice.- Caller: Possible SCAM
