Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so. - Matt Evangelou replies to Heather ErwinCrazy, heavy accented guy named "Steve Martin" says he is from US Treasury - I am sure it is a scam - Just a heads up to others.
- Matt EvangelouScam - Heavy accented guy called and left message - said he was from the US Treasury. I'm sure with that accent, the US Treasury would not have hired him!!! Just a heads up - goes by the name of "Steve Martin". Really?? You could not have thought of a better name than that?
- Caller: US Treasury Scam
- Potential VictimSame as others Steve Martin (hard to be sure, since he has a heavy accent) called, said he was from US Treasury, and that ignoring his call was a federal offence. Demanded a call at 626-692-8480. I reported him to FTC and IRS.
- Caller: Claimed US Treasury... Scammer.
- KTWorst scammers ever. They left a message. I tried to call them to tell them to remove my name from their call list. They were a complete joke - "U.S. Treasury department" and then didn't seem to have a clue as to what to say when I said "I know your a scammer please remove my name from your call list."
- IrritatedAlready 4 times this morning. How do you stop it?
- Caller: Steve Martin Indian Guy
- Call type: Prank
- D SmithSomeone with a heavy Indian accent, claiming to be named Steve Martin (!), left me a message saying he was calling from the US Treasury and that it would be a federal offense not to respond. This is an obvious scam. If you call back they will try to get your personal information so they can steal your identity. Fraud, identity theft, scam!
- JFRWell....."Steve Martin" called twice already this morning. It's Saturday and he called before 8:00. Do they really think anyone will fall for the scam? I called back and "Steve" did answer the phone by saying "Us Treasury". Who answers any business phone like that?? I then put the phone in front of the TV and turned the volume up loud. Wish I had a whistle!!
- Caller: Bad US Treasury scam
- Call type: Debt collector
- kGot the same call yesterday on ans, machine from "Steve Martin" same as others. Said we had to appear before a magistrate and a grand jury for a federal criminal offense and needed to respond right away so they could "help" us in this matter.
The US treasury aka IRS does not call anyone (or e-mail). All contact is done through the mail and people are given phone numbers to contact THEM!!
Citizens in our county were recently warned via our local newspaper about this scam that has started to perpetuate in our county and neighboring county.
Advice: Don't answer out of area calls unless you absolutely recognize the number!! Even local area numbers are "Spoofed" into getting people to answer--debt collectors, telemarketers, spammers and scammers. If it is an unrecognizable name on caller ID or unknown, unavailable, or "private", chances are you don't want to talk to them. If it's important, people will leave a message or voice mail and probably NOT have an Indian accent. Also these low-lifes will use their personal cell phone instead of a company number--BEWARE! Don't call them back--that is a sure indication that your number is a working number (not like a lot of theirs who are "Out of Service" or "Message mailbox is full" yeah, right. "Googleing" the number is a great place to get the info on who called you.- Caller: "US Treasury"
- Joung CookA person identified as Steve Martin call to threaten criminal action against me on behalf of the US Treasury. He did not identify whom he is calling. That was the first sign of something that is not proper. I never received a notification from US Treasury on any thing. That was the second sign of something that was not proper. This was clearly a scam call. I am looking for a government agency to report this to. In the mean time. I do not wish to receive any calls from this number.
