- CLIt's a "you are guilty of criminal activity"..."call now or we will take you to court" type of scam.
I thought I'd call back for fun, but probably not - DonnaGot the call. Guy left message to call him back about criminal activity or we'd be prosecuted. Tried to call the number to tell him to leave me alone but number was always busy.
- MDThis guy called claimed to be Steve Martin- heavy accent. Calling from US Treasury. Said it would be in my best interest to work with him. This is a scam - he called my friend yesterday.
I work with IRS- they don't do this. They send you letters, give you opportunity to respond before calling you. DO NOT EVER GIVE MONEY ON GREEN DOT MONEY CARD. - KNReceived 2 messages from guy claimed to be Steve Martin - heavy accent - Calling from US Treasury. Said it would be in my best interest to work with him. Left message about criminal activity or we'd be prosecuted. Has to be a scam - I'm not calling back.
- JH| 1 replyI just got called, heavy Indian accent. sounds like a scam
- Alfalfa replies to JHThis is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
- Alan GGot the same call as KN...called back twice. Got Steve the first time, asked him to wait while I looked this number up. I asked him who is supervisor was and surprise! The call was cut off. I called back again and got a female voice with a similar accent. Again, no supervisor, and cut off quickly. I've emailed the Illinois Attorney General's office, hope we can get these idiots jailed.
- Caller: "Legal Affairs Department"
- KiKiOMG totally a scammer calling from this number,
too bad he left a message on my machine or I would have laughed
at him & forwarded him to the local police dept.
The IRS or the Treasury dept don't call you out of the blue, plus the voice mail
never referred to anyone at my phone number by name. Duh more than one person lives
here . Also even if you owed the government $$ they work at such a slow pace
it wouldn't be an emergency to send them money.
Can't believe people fall for these idiots& send them $$- Caller: Scum R US
- ElizabethI left a message online with fbi.gov pull down menu scams.
- PatMessage on my machine. Couldn't understand the guys name - heavy accent. Was told it would be in my best interest to cooperate with them - something about a federal offense. The scary part is that its a local number. Where do these people come from? I guess I'd better wait for the Feds to come and get me. LOL
- DuaneI actually called the number back and got "Steve Martin". I used a handful of 4 letters words I learned in the Navy and he finally hung up on me.
Next one who calls I'm going to tell them I can only give them cash and I'll have to deliver it.....I can't wait for the fun to begin on that dot - Keith8172I got Steve Martin too!!! Call from Oakbrook on Caller ID. I did not bite from the beginning. I asked him where his office was located and he was silent. I then told him how stupid he and his group was. I ended up calling back two more times and he gave me some bs title and employee number and told me I would be arrested. Well....I am still at home!
