Just received a text from this number that states I should send my shipping address to receive $200 worth of Wal-Mart vouchers.

Believe it is a collector trying to find my home address.

I got the same message

Not a collector because I am not behind on anything and got the same text.  It's probably a scam.

Called these folks (from a different line) claim to be Company: Customer Rewards Department- clearwater florida
website: rewardscash.com....   Say they cannot remove you from list unless you call from the number- total scam IMO

I got the same text this morning.  Something about collecting $200 in Walmart gift cards....

Effing scammers drive me nuts.

Chances are, these people are getting numbers off of Craigslist so be mindful when you post info on there.

Here's the text that I received:

John, Congratulations.Claim Your $100 Cash Card. Call 877-728-7944 Now. Offer Valid for first 100 callers.REPLY STOP to stop messages.

received text on cell phone. cell is limited private number, not given out, unlisted. pure harassment. called number to STOP, got a sales pitch from a giggly broken-english female. the natl do-not-call list is a fed hoax. they make money by selling YOUR phone numbers. maybe this is how helicopter ben can finance the new paper he's printing.

Honest telemarketers respect the DoNotCall Registry, abusive telemarketers and scammers do not, nor will charities, politicians and surveys because they're exempt. The DNCR will not protect you from scammers any more than a window will stop a thief. Spare us your poorly-reasoned theories.

I know of 2 variations on this scam

1) legal
When you agree to accept the card you also agree to join some sort of shopping club.  The club is useless but costs $49/month.  It takes 6 months of effort and hours on the phone to drop the membership.  You end up paying $394 for the $200 card

2) illegal
They make you give them a credit card number to pay shipping and handling charges.  They spend your money, usually the entire available credit, and never send you the card.

If that was true I would get a lot more than the 2-3 calls/year I get now.

The text came from 877-439-0044, white page reverse number lookup showed California base.
Called, the rep "in training" said she was calling from Maine.
My text said ..(1 day ago) I won a free 100 wallmart gift card.  
Rep verified my info and wanted a credit card number.  Said I would received a "rewards card" in 7 days for $100 to shop at www.rewardscash.com.  I said how did a "$100 Wallmart Gift Card" turn into your "Rewards card" in less than 24 hours?  She said, "oh they use to give out Walmart cards, they change daily".  She asked my credit card info.  I said  Visa, Card# 999-999-999-0999 exp date 09/99.
She said, "oh I thought you were going to give me a legit CC#".  I said, "oh, I thought you were going give me a legit Walmart Gift Card"  "Got YOU...before you got me"...
