These people tried calling me with an Indian accent claiming they were the IRS saying I had an arrest warrant for not paying student taxes. It was bogus I hung up

Same as above. Man called with Indian accent from 'IRS' and said I was being charged with not paying a one time student tax something or other, when I've been enrolled with my college for four years.

Same thing. He left a voicemail saying he was officer Scott Anderson from the IRS, that there was a Federal complaint filed against my name and identity, and there are charges against me from National Bureau of Crime Investigation Department.

The same thing just happened to me. A man with an Indian accent left me a voicemail saying there was a federal complaint filed against me, and said to call him back ASAP.

This is the transcript of a voicemail that he left for me today.
"This message is for (my name).
(My name), this is Officer Scott Anderson, calling you from Internal Revenue service.
The reason of my call is to give you a (unintelligible) notification. In regards to federal complaints filed against your name.
In your identity, right now, there are 3 pending charges against you from the National Bureau of Crime Investigation department.
So before anything goes wrong and before we take any serious steps against you,
I want you to give me a call back on an urgent basis on my number which is646-461-2206.
I repeat…646-461-2206.
And if  you fail to call back, you alone are responsible (unintelligible) or if other legal action that will be taken against you.
Thank you.  You have a great day."

These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

Same exact thing--This number called claiming to be "Officer Scott Anderson from the IRS". He passed me off to another "officer" who asked me questions regarding my taxes. I was told that the call was being recorded for the federal government and that if I did not comply honestly, I'd have to stand my case in a federal court. I was told I have three charges pending and my outstanding charge was in the amount of $985 to the federal government. He asked whether I intended to skip the payment or it was a mistake. He did not ask for personal information and frustratedly hung up the phone when I could not answer the questions.

My daughter received that same call on 5/6/2015:  collecting "student tax".  Same number

I just received the same call. I asked for a name and badge number which he gave then hung up. I thought maybe my cell dropped the call so I called back. The same man with a foreign accent answered and answered saying Crime enforcement Dept. I asked who I was speaking with and was told Officer Sean Taylor. I asked him to spell out Sean since it could be Sean or Shawn...hung up again. I knew this was a scam and was mildly irritated so I called back. I told him that I was filing a report for this number as IRS fraud. "Officer Taylor" lost his cool and proceeded to cuss me out then hung up.

Same story as all the other comments, except I grew unpatient and called them out on it being a scam. They became angry and said "who told you, who? Who?"

I received a phone call from this number today as well. I don't have any student loans so he got frustrated with the information I was giving him. I asked him if it was a scam and he told me he would transfer me to his superior officer. The IRS will always contact you by mail so of course it was a scam

Same [***] called me saying I owe the government 2000!! I knew it was bogus so I hang up and they kept calling me back from 911! This time a different man with an accent threatening a warrant for my arrest. I shut my phone off

I had the exact same experience with the Officer Scott Anderson. I have worked with the IRS before from a tax audit and owing money, and this is absolutely a scam. The below notes are accurate, the real IRS will send you a letter first. If the IRS does call, they will provide you with badge info, accurate phone numbers that you can check against the IRS site (they even will let you hang up and call them back after confirming it), they are willing to confirm your identity with you, and can even provide your claim info that you can see online too. In addition, the IRS will never ask for payment immediately over the phone. Also, if anyone receives a voicemail with all the details about taxes due and potential warrants etc, please note this is an immediate sign of a scam. Anytime a company is calling a person, by federal law, they are not allowed to leave such detailed info and can only state who they are and where they are from and return call info. They can never leave personal info such as debts, warrants etc on a voicemail (I know this because I worked for a debt collection agency before).

These people called me and left a message saying there was a federal complaint made against me and to call them back.... LOL

On 5/7/15 got a voice message from a male with a heavy Indian accent stating to call back this number because a legal complaint had been filed on me. If I did not call back ASAP legal action would be taken against me. Knew immediayely it was a scam!!

I didn't answer this call I just let it go to voicemail because I didn't recognize the number. The voicemail was a man with an Indian accent. He knew my name and told me his name was officer Paul Brown with the IRS and there was a complaint against my identity. He also said that legal actions were going to be taken against me and I needed to call him back ASAP.

The same thing happened to me. Where are you from Im trying to figure out if this something g just happening to students in my college or if it's happening to other colleges as well.

A man with an Asian accent called and told me that I had a warrant out for my arrest. I hung up and they called back leaving a voicemail telling me to contact them so that further action wouldn't be taken. You could hear a bunch of weird voices in the background!

I got a call and they said I owe $800 for not filling out some student form. One guy supposedly transferred me to what
I think was supposed to be a collections officer but I'm pretty sure it was the same person. They told me to go to my car and they would give me further instructions when I got there. I couldn't tell what he was saying half the time so I didn't really know what was going on. They didn't ask for a debit number or anything, I'm curious where they were planning to send me or what they were going to get out of it? Anyway, an interesting start to my morning. Haha

I had the same man call me stated he was officer Ryan Johnson from Federal Law Enforcement. He said I had a criminal charge and that I needed to call beck. When I called back he asked if I was being sued I said no and he was acting like he was looking for my file yet he didn't have my name just my number. When i told him he could call my lawyer he hung up.
