- Arlene| 40 repliesI got a call today 12/29/08 at 9:06 AM. It was a computer saying about a job that I applied for. I did not applied for any jobs in New Jersey. Who are these people?
- Caller: N/A
- anonymousI got a call too. I have been applying for jobs so I stayed on the line. They asked for my phone number and then we were cut off.
- JBD| 16 repliesI received a call from this number about a job I applied for online. They wanted to verify information that I submitted on my application. They didn't ask for personal info, I confirmed info that I submitted and answered a few prescreening questions. Once done, they sent it to the hiring manager. They said I should hear from the employer in a few days. I heard from the employer in 4 days!
- destroyer| 11 repliesI received a call from this number also. they stated that they wanted to verify some information on a job application that i filled out online. i stayed on the phone for 5 minutes waiting for someone to come on instead of the repeated recording. I did a search for the area code and found out that it is in manhattan, NY. i then tried to call them back on my home phone while i was still holding on my cell. there was no answer the first time. when i hung up with them on my cell after about 10 minutes i tried to call them back from my home phone. it rang about 6 times then gave me a ring tone. needless to say i never did find out who they are or what they wanted.
- jobseekerOh, I'm glad I found this site - now it explains my "missed call" that I didn't recognize. I too am looking for a job and applied on-line thru Craig's List, and I'll bet it was an automated type return. Oh well, I guess those people have a job pre-qualifying others!

- JoelI received a call from this number today as well (missed it). Got a busy signal when I tried calling back. I suspect it's related to highdefcareers.com as that's the only online pre-screening company I've posted any applications through.
- steelersruleI received a call from this number as well and after waiting about 5 minutes I realized the call was dropped. When I tried to call back, the call just went dead. I am also in the job market and was really excited about this call but as it turns out it was just pomp and circumstance. It does make me a little suspicious about giving out information even when searching for a job because I still don't know who or what company if any was calling.
- Anna| 11 repliesI received a call from 1-646-520-0697 on Jan. 14,2009 @ 10:00a.m. When I answered it was a recording saying I had applied for an online job and I needed to be on my computer to finish the application process. A person then came on my cell phone, by the way, It was my cell phone that they called. They said they were calling from Employment Select and that I filled out an online job application on Dec. 26, 2008. (I did apply for a job online on that date and this is what happened. There was a job listing posted on hot jobs for a part-time receptionist, the online application asked for my name, adress, cell phone # and provider and I uploaded my resume. I thought it was strange that they were asking for my cell phone provider, as soon as I clicked on the continue button I was switched to what looked like a careers website but it was called Mandarin Employment. I immediately knew something was wrong with this application. I tried to contact them via email at info@mandarin.com, this was the contact email given on that website, asking them to remove my information. The email was returned stating no such account existed. I suspected then that this was a scam. I typed in the name on google Mandarin Employment and found out they use several different names such as Employment Select, City Careers, Career Network, JobEnrichmentNow. From the info I received on google these companies are listed as bait and switch.) Now getting back to the original phone call, I knew immediately then, who this company was and told them to remove my information and that they did not have my permission to use my info for any purposes. I was very firm with them on the phone and the person starting yelling at me and saying who did I think I was to yell at them. They wanted my info to remove me from their system. I didn't fall for it because they already had my info. This persons manager came on the phone and said they didn't like my tone of voice. I told her what I had found out about their company online and I was not going to give them any more info because they had gotten my info thru false pretenses and I hung up on them and they kept calling me back. I stopped answering the phone. Any company that calls you back to yell at you is not a legitimate company in my opinion. I have filled out many online job applications but never experienced anything like this. To those unemployed please be careful out there, unfortunately there are many people willing to take advantage.
- steelersrule replies to JBDWho was calling from the 646-520-0697 #.
- steelersrule replies to AnnaBless you and thank you Anna for that information. It is already disheartening enough as it is to try to find a job and survive in such a unforgiving economy let alone have to deal with scam artists.Once again thanks and good luck in your search for employment.
- Mrs. SI've received several calls from this number only to hear a recording stating the caller is out of the service district when I attempted to return the call.
- Dawn replies to AnnaThank you for this. I too, applied for a job the same way that you did. I just received a call on this today -- thanks for doing the digging on this.
- reese34I received a call from that number less than 10 minutes ago. They called my cell phone stating I just applied for a job online (it was a recording); I waited on hold for several minutes but no one came to the phone. I have been applying to jobs online but not sure who this could be.
- gah!| 4 repliesYes, I too applied for jobs online and experienced the same exact thing as Anna and have been calls from unknown callers and also got a call from this number. Is there anything we can do to stop this? I have been getting called every hour now!
- Cro- Magnon replies to JBDHi, I also received the call and missed it. The message had a NY phone number and called back to find the number did not exist. You said the employer called you back in four days...who was it? Just curious.
Thanks - Ricky replies to JBDso who was it? What company did they say there were when you heard back from them?
- babybee418 replies to JBD| 1 replyWas the employer you heard from a legitimate employer to which you had applied for a job. I received a call from the 800 number as well, I missed the call so only heard the recording. When I attempt to call back, the line is busy.
- babybee418 replies to AnnaThanks Anna, your message was very helpful. I thought this was odd as well. The fact that I'm not able to ge through to the recorded number has definitely raised a red flag, your message confirms my thoughts about this. Good luck in your job search. Being unemployed right now sucks. I'm college educated, years of experience and jobless for a few months. But keeping the faith...sooner or later a legitimate employer will respond to my application.
- babybee418I received a call from this number today 1/15/09; I wasn't available and a message was left on my cell phone. I've attempted to call the number back several times and it's not a legitimate number because I keep getting a busy signal. It's not a typical busy signal you get when someone is on their phone, it's the type of signal you get when you have mis-dialed a number
- Caller: unknown
- MelissaI JUST received a call from this same number. It also told me to be close to a computer and that it was in regards to a job I had applied to online. I have applied to several I have found on craigslist. They sent me a link to fill out an application. The only two sites that have come up are career network and power applications. I filled out the application and then they asked for references. Those I listed filled out a survey online and then they had me re-verify my initial information. I then received an email that my process was complete and that I would hear from a hiring manager. I have been skeptical from the beginning as to why they would want to know what cell phone carrier I have. And the fact that the company's were all confidential.
