- Steve| 4 repliesThreatening message claiming the IRS has issued an arrest warrant and I should call back.
- Joyce replies to SteveIRS does NOT call you, they only send you a letter.....also the Sheriff will not come out and arrest you ......just another scam!!!!!!!
- VirginiaReceived a message from a foreign speaking male telling me to call their phone number as there is a legal notice against my name and he gave no company name from which he was calling, not sure which one of us this would apply to as there are two people in this household with different last names, the caller said to call before this goes to the Federal Claim Courthouse or be arrested, if this caller calls back again I will answer the phone to tell him exactly what I think about the threat and that will not be something he's going to want to hear.
- BobSame thing. Foreign male. Whole message was not on recorder so was a canned message not a live person.FBI should look at this.
- Caller: No company name given
- JudySame thing. Didn't answer the call since it was from a New York phone number I didn't recognize. Told me that there was an arrest warrant for my address and something about an IRS lien. Very difficult to understand the thick accent. Another IRS scam.
- NOMEX| 1 replySame as above comments. Claims they are IRS with no specific person named having a arrest warrant for tax fraud. So I called them back and a woman answers with just plain "Hello, IRS". So, I start messing with her right back. "No Comprende?!" She got angry immediately. That is not a typical level-headed government employee who doesn't give a S#1T about anyone. The number also comes up as a mobile sms number which is not going to be government either. I say mess with them since they are short tempered and criminal obviously. Or avoid it.
- Rich replies to NOMEXSame message the guy claimes I need to call them back because IRS has warrents out for my arrerst. and pay them the bill. FBI should look into this!!
- melissaReceived the same message as everyone else!
- reynaI also got a voicemail with the same guy. Called back and the lady answered... IRS. Said this is not the IRS and the lady ... if u want to call it that. Hung up

thick accent and was difficult to understand had to play the recording 4 times before I could make out the message
the matter it is not right for hard working people to receive these type of scam calls and try getting money

- Slim replies to SUZANNEThere is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

- Alfalfa replies to houston-texas-residentThese are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.
If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
