I think it was a scam.  I just got the call and he said he was from Bell and was calling about a promotion and then wanted to know who my TV provider was.  I said he should already know that.  Then I said it sounded like a scan.  He then asked again who my home TV, internet and phone provider was, I told I wouldn't not tell him this information.  He said thank you and hung up.

BEWARE!! I got a call from this number recently. The same people (or person) have called me two times before, back in summer. The guys (or guy, I have a feeling it was the same guy: Indian or Philippino accent, introduced himself as "John" and then "redirected" me to a "Mark".) The first time they almost managed to scam me, claiming that they are from a company called "Internet Server Management of Canada" - they were trying to sell me overpriced computer protection packages (Antivirus, Firewall, etc with a LIFETIME WARRANTY). Luckily I managed to catch on to their trick before buying anything.

The second time they called me from a different number. They were the same people though (same accent, almost the same names, same trick with the "redirection", the only difference was that Mark now posed as a "Michael Steve"). Now they claimed that they were with Bell ExpressVu, and - same story as in previous posts - tried to offer promotional TV+Internet+Home phone, promising that prices will stay fixed for a LIFETIME (Does that ExpressVu sound a bit like DejaVu or what?) Only this time, they tried to fish out my personal information, such as my SIN NUMBER, DATE OF BIRTH, DRIVING LICENSE NUMBER and other such information! I gave them some random info just for fun, and the next day got a call back from a Janice, who demanded me, yes, demanded me, about why I've given them the wrong info. When asked why they needed such detailed personal info (which, if given away to random people over the phone, could lead to identity theft) in the first place, she told me it was just TO MAKE SURE THEY INSTALLED THE PACKAGE AT THE RIGHT PLACE... (Yeah, right...) By the way, I called Bell about them, and Bell representatives said that this was most probably some kind of fraud, and that they are NOT associated with this company and do NOT offer any bundles through them.

The third time they called today, from the number 647-495-9472. Same guy, same accent, same tricks... I just wonder whether anything can be done about this ExpressVu and its bunch of fraudsters! Is there any way to report them to police or anything? I mean, isn't it illegal of them to demand for such personal information as SIN numbers etc. to install a service?

why you had to talk too much with them, best thing is to say that you are aware of their scam and the police is investigate it, and then pretend that you're calling the police.
they'll never call again, it did work with me.

Just got a call from 647-495-9472.  I did not answer as I did not recognize the number, no name on the call display, and let it go to the answering machine.  Stupid idiot didn't even know that he was talking to an answering machine.  Yep, he had an Indian accent and said, "Hi, my name is Kevin and i am calling from Bell Canada, how are you doing this evening....Hi, can you hear me?...I am Kevin and I am calling from Bell Canada...", then he hung up.  Since when does Bell Canada use a cell phone number to call??? I really hate these scammers!!!  We should bring back the death penalty just for these pieces of sh*t!!  I immediately put the number on call block.  I am on the Do Not Call List but they cannot keep up as these scammers keep changing their numbers and are calling from cell phones.

    Scam the Scammers
I work at home and I'm guaranteed a minimum of one daily call from a telemarketer. Usually its for duct cleaning. Today, it was these scumbags pretending to be Rogers representatives.

It's been so aggravating that I've considered cancelling my land line account with Bell. Today, I decided to make a game of it.

If you have caller display and you don't recognize the number, answer on speaker phone.

Once established that it's a scam, allow them to ramble on with their script with only minimal encouragement on your part as you continue to work, read, browse or do housework. (I read background research on an article I'm writing while the call went on.)

Ask them to repeat things. Pretend you have difficulty speaking English or you're being distracted by your pet. I  answered inquires with random words that I read from assorted things on my desktop (a la Keyser Söze).

The pièce de résistance: I pretended to pass the phone off to another person in the house and they had to start the pitch from the beginning.

You'll be surprised how long they'll engage with you if they suspect there's even a whiff on interest in their scam. Thieving scumbags are, by nature, quite stupid. Not only is this game fun, you're taking away their time when they would be harassing other people with their calls. You're protecting a grandma from being scammed.

I kept the d-bags at this number going for 5 minutes before telling them what I had done and thanking them for the entertainment. Next time, I'll shoot for 10.

I'd love to see other people posting how many minutes they were able to scam from the scammers.

I also received a call from this number by a woman saying she was a Bell representative. The deal was similar to what they offer on the internet but what bothered me was they asked for my SIN number. I did not give them this number but did give my drivers licence # because they said they needed  it for the free visa card. Afterward I felt uneasy about it and called Bell, they did not have me in their system st all so I realized this was a scam. I did call the police and they told me it was a scam, and that I should contact equifax and trans union to put an alert on my file. I should have know it was too good to be true. I'm usually so careful. I wish they could catch them.

    Probably not.
If they are Bell Canada and you have or had an account that exempts them from the DNCL.
If they are scammers, their call does not originate in this country (Canada) they are not bound by Canadian law.
So your stuck with their calls.
You could complain to Bell Canada I've found that as useless as the DNCL.

Just got a call from them. Didn't answer. It went directly to the answering machine. The guy didn't know it was the answering machine. Like you guys said, it sounded like some Filipino accent.
