I just received a call from this number.  No one answered and it was busy the three times all returned the call.  They called my business number so I was hoping this was a legitimate caller.

I've tryed to call back, but they don't answer.

This is strange, all the calls were made today.

Received a phone call from this number on 2010-12-18 at 16:10 EST. Bot gave me 5-digit verification number. It seems some tech company doing phone marketing of some sort. Google? Apple?

I live in NJ, my number is 973-xxx-xxxx with T-Mobile.

It is googles verification number. When you sign up for a buiness listing, the computer generated call is forwarded to confirm you have made the listing with google. Confims verification code also.

The phone calls also occur when Google is confirming a password change request.  For example, if someone were attempting to reset the password for your GMail account, then google sends the authorization code to you.  They do not change the password until you enter the code.  In this way they assure the request is authorized by you.

Multiple calls from this number at 4am.  I can't understand the language (Mandarin?  Cantonese?) but it does seem to be reciting a verification code.  I didn't request any new accounts or password changes, although I'm changing my passwords now!

It's from Google!   If you didn't set up an account for your business listing... then someone else probably entered a wrong phone number - and lucky you... it's yours!

The number it is giving you is to be used to validate a business listing online.

When a person makes a Gmail account from Google-not sure if it's from making multiple accounts or even the first one-there are some steps taken.

One of the last steps is a phone verification.  When making the email address, you have to enter a phone number to receive either a call or a text message. You can choose between the two depending on what you desire.

It could be that someone incorrectly placed their number.  Anyone in the world can make a Gmail account, and you can select between recognized nations with phone prefixes.  Someone could have entered the wrong number if you don't remember making an account.

This is Google's new way of "verifying your Google Account" in YouTube and all other Google services. In order to get into one's YouTube Account and other Google services one now MUST have one of these accounts. Google 'says' that they're simply trying to stem the tide of SPAM, etc. (... .... ...but my opinion is that they are using that as an excuse to gather yet MORE information about everyone. Do NOT quote me on that! )

If you Have _NOT_ applied for any of Google's services simply ignore it. It just means that someone who didn't want to give a real number or a nefarious party has tried to apply for a Google Account with false information and just happened to land on your phone number in doing so. Do NOT try to call back because this is an AUTOMATED service!!! Of _COURSE_ you will get a busy signal!!! duh!

If you HAVE applied for a Google Account such as for YouTube, G-mail, etc. then you've been jumping or have jumped through Google's long and drawn out application process and SHOULD know exactly what is going on.  ... ... ... if you have a brain in your head worth anything at all!  ;)

You should have answered that to retrieve your verification number and continue on with your application for your g-mail account. I bet your g-mail account never started working or no longer works because you didn't finish the process.
