Get several calls a day from this number at work.  We have caller ID and it says "unavailable" We have been instructed not to answer any call that is not identified.  They never leave a message.

They called my work and asked for an employee who quit about 7 years ago...very friendly but didn't say what he wanted

Phone always answered by answering machine. Stupid company does try to leave a message but starts while the outgoing message begins. Obviously has a very cheap phone system.

It's First Step Group, debt collectors (www.firststep-group.com/). They are associated with Cach LLC. Google "First Step Group debt collector+Cache" and you'll find a lot of helpful information.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Can you believe that bottom feeders like this waste their lives calling people for debts they don't owe?  I'm so glad
that I get up in the morning to a better life than they have.  I just laugh at them lol.  Just sad little scam artists.

Received a voice message from this number claiming to be First Step Group regarding collections. They did not state who they were calling to speak to or anything. Since this is not applicable to me, and in light of all this information and related information on First Step Group (appears to be at best a group with very poor debtor information and bedside manners), I am completely ignoring.

true....bottom feeders.  I don't owe anyone anything that a debt collector would be calling me about.  Scamers!

These trolls are associated with Portfolio Recovery. Some days you'll get a call from First Step Group (with spoofed CID) and other times it's Portfolio Recovery directly with their name actually in the CID.

You are right about their phone system being very antiquated. Does not even sense a disconnect recording which this number is automatically transferred to. There doesn't seem to be any humans around, just a Tonka Toy brand calling device.

This is about the 4th or 5th time I've received calls from this number as of todays (06/22/2015) date. I'm debt free, and there's absolutely no reason a bill collector would be calling me...

I can tell you this y'all - these people like to go fishing. By which I mean they'll go after anyone who has the same or similar name as the person they're looking for who also lives in the same general area as the person they're looking for. The idea behind that being they might get lucky and snag a relative...

As to them being bottom feeders, well they very likely are...

If I see a number on my Caller ID display, and I don't recognize it - simply put I (1) don't answer, and (2) I don't return the call...

Oh ... and I leave my phone ringer turned off 24/7 too...

If you don't already have Caller ID on your landline, get it. And like I do, leave your landline ringer turned off. It totally stops these annoying bottom feeding bill collectors dead in their tracks...

Anybody who wants to talk to me has my cell-phone and pager number...
