This is a scam..They call about a potential I.R.S. Prosecution charges for unpaid tax debt..They previously were using number 954 281 6899..Just google that nunber and you will see all the info by them. They use magic jack voice over I.p. service and it sucks..You can bareky make out their message since the call is breaking up...If you owe money to the I.R.S. they send certified and regular mail to the house to get your attention then a debit agent...It's illegal under collection practices for any debt company to leave threatening messages about an unpaid debt or to even mention the debt on the message due to privacy laws in the collection industry.  I used to work for Capital One and if the person you called pkayed that voicemail and others heard it then your company can be sued....If you have debt issues with any company csll them directly or a debt settlement who works om your behalf.  Don't be fooled into paying these scam artists your money which you will never get back......

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

From this number. Called back and I was told I owed the IRS money . They said I would be arrested in 45 minutes.  They would not answer any of my questions but they said there was nothing I could to do to stop the process . So they did not ask for money.

Scam but what are they after????

Some idiot just called and said he was from the IRS and I had debt to pay or be thrown in jail. Funny I work for the Federal govt and the IRS doesn't work on Saturday and they certainly can afford a better phone than the one someone just tried this scam on. Do not call these idiots......

They called again- I had gotten the same scam last month from a different number. This time when I called back the guy's Indian accent changed to much less thick and berated me for about 3 minutes with sexually explicit and vulgar rude profanities when I suggested that his scam was a scam. Also they can't keep the name of their scam straight. 100% PHONY.

Caller claiming to be: Steve Martin. He is one "Wild and Crazy" guy!! Call The Inspector General for Tax Administration Office 1(800)366-4484 and report his/their changing phone numbers and phone harassment tactics. Click "Block Number" on your phone for atleast the numbers I've been getting: (661)475-2716 and (510)356-6691. DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION!!!! SCAM !!! They claimed I owed $4,450.00 and asked if I had that amount of cash at home (so they can rob in person), or in my bank (so they can try to do a withdrawal in that amount). They have a "Blocked Phone Number" decifer-system which instantly gives them your real-name and actual-address (scary)!! They use their names as: Mark Gibson I.D.#CP503 he then transfers your call to his "supervisor" Officer Anthony Goober. They are crafty and possibly part of a large syndicate. EVERYONE should report these activities as many fall-prey allowing this scum to further grow and keep harassing us all unrelentingly. Please don't be complacent and just hope maybe the next-sucker will report this crime; it could end-up being a loved-one !! Love thye brothers !!

I got a call that came through as "Edwards, CA" on the caller ID.  I didn't answer, but a man with a heavy Indian accent left a message identifying himself by a name that I couldn't understand and said he was calling in regard to an action against me executed by the U.S. Treasury.  He said that if I "intentionally ignore this second attempt" to contact him, I will be summoned to appear before a magistrate or grand jury "for federal criminal offense."  The call ended with the person encouraging me to cooperate by  calling him at this number so he can "help" me.

"Steve Martin" left me a voicemail on January 17, 2015. What a prankster he is. He had an Indian accent and said something about a federal offense, a magistrate, and a grand jury...and the U.S. Treasury?
