    They called me last week explaining that I had an overdue account with another company and they were collecting on it. They said my interest was 17% apr and I was being charged $3.50 per day in interest and that I should take care of it right away. They asked for account numbers or debit/credit card. I said I'd call them back to see what I could do. I called back and Mr. Smith was unavailable so I spoke with another guy. He said the interest was 17%apr and that the interest per day was quoted as wrong. I said I'd call back - the two interest rates quoted were raising a red flag to me. They called today, Mr Smith this time said the situation was ridiculous that it's gone on so long and that my interest was $5.50 per day. I said that was an inacurate quote for interest, that last week he said it was $3.50 per day, and that I would not give them anything until I saw it in writing. Mr Smith said "Sorry, I won't call you again," and he hung up.

    I think it's a scam. I think they get access to your credit report and try to collect on stuff that isn't theirs.

    $3.50/day at 17% APR means you owe 365/0.017*3.5=$75,147.06 not even counting late fees. Is this amount remotely familiar? Always ask for validation of debt. The FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf *requires* debt collectors (it ain't optional) to give debtors *written* notice of debt on pages 11 and 12. The key word is "shall" in paragraph 809(a).
    "§ 809. Validation of debts
    (a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing—
    (1) the amount of the debt;
    (2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
    (3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
    (4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
    (5) a statement that, upon the consumer’s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."

Nice try Bill Collector.  If you have something on me, this is a Credit report issue.  It is against the law to state that I have Charges filled against me from a Bill Collector!!

    The following information as to how to file an expedited complaint with the Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs was extracted from: https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-781-3445/4:

    send a statement via USPS to
    Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs

    or fax to 404-651-9018

    Describe your contact with this company and their practices. Use the form located at: http://www.georgia.gov/vgn/images/portal/cit_ ... mplaintform.pdf for expedited processing by their office.  It's extremely important to their case to include in your statement if the phone representative claimed to be an attorney, claimed that the firm is a law firm or alluded to the firm being a law firm or having lawyers on staff or something about a  network of attorneys that work for their firm. Also end your statement with the line below:

    I respectfully request that the firm Hollander Chase and Associates be prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law pursuant to 15 USC §§ 1692 § 814 and State laws regarding Fair Debt Collection Credit Practices.

    If you think that the Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs won't investigate these (and other) rogue collection agencies....think again.

    Someone I know who was being illegally harassed by another collection agency turned them in. Within a few weeks, the claimant received a copy of the letter the State sent to the agency, who gave them fair warning: CONTINUE to violate State and Federal laws and we WILL prosecute.

    They almost tricked me. They called my father (who has an unlisted number) and left a message saying that I was in big trouble and would be going to jail. When I called them back they said that I owed money, on a legitimate loan that I have been working with the creditor on, and that if I did not pay the balance either in one or two payment that they were filing criminal charges against me and that the police would be by to take me to jail. When I advised that I was working on paying the loan back with the creditor I was advised that because I had not met the creditors minimum payment requirements and that they had turned it over to this firm to handle. I was told that I had to pay at least half of the debt back in two days or else. When asked what I needed to do to take care of the situation I was transferred to person by the name of Michael who went on and on about not paying and that I would have court fees. I advised I would take care of it but I needed to know what I should do. He said that if I sent in a check to them he could not release my account for 3 days and by then it would be too late. He said that I needed to go to Bank of America and deposit either cash or a cashiers check into their account and once I got the payment confirmation code to call him back and he would clear my account. After I got off the phone I called my creditor and they said that they had NOT transferred this account to anyone and that I was to continue paying them directly. BE CAREFUL!!!! I am calling these dirty scammers back and telling them to never call me or my father again or I will press charges for harassment and scamming. Unbelievable that some people try to "kick" someone when they are down on their luck financially. Almost gave up two weeks of grocery money to these jerks!!

    They keep calling my work after I told them not too. They refuse to give me any info about what they are calling me about and said they are going to press charges and I will go to prison. Seriously!!! Luckly for me I use to work in collections so I know my rights but even at first they scared me. They have to be stopped cause they are getting money out of people and its not right. Plus They refuse to listen even after I tell them they must send me info and that they don't tell me they are a debt collection place and they keep calling me a work.

    This fake company has been calling me everyday. They said I need 2 pay 1295 dollars for a sofa set from Aarons that was never paid off. While I offered to give them 50 dollars a week but they told me to save money from card intrest I can just pay 200 a month. I gave them my card number but no they want my 3 digit security code. I didnt. I always ask about money orders I never got a reply on that. So I figured it was a scam. So I goolged the number and came to this site. I always called the FBI. I'm now waiting on them to call me back.

    I received a call at work today from a man who said "I'm calling from Holland Chase & Associates, we were hired for legal representation by payday1 loans to collect on a loan that was deposited into your account at ***** ******** bank in 2007 which you have never made a payment." I told him I knew of no such loan and this was a place of business (911) and he was not to call back. He told me to fax a copy of payment being made on this account to him at 800-592-5461and he would stop calling. I again told him I did not know what he was speaking of and to not call again. He told me I already said that and to stop repeating myself. (OK I'll play your game idiot) Sir I'm a little busy right now What is a number I can contact you at when I get a minute. 888-286-3470 ext.331 - and who am I speaking with again - Herbert Joseph w/ Holland Chase & associates representing payday1 loans. I then said I am formaly requesting that you remove this number from your contact list, this is a place of business this is 911 Sir and by law you are required to stop calling. He hung up on me. Now in 2007 I started to apply for a pay day loan (funeral expense) but decided not to go through with it. The thing that is realy frightening is that this person had my old bank name and year I held account correct along with work number, god only knows what other personal info he or any one else assosicated with this front has. Wish he would have called on a recorded line. Not giving up on this one. The hunter will be hunted, am filing complaints with every jurisdictional agency

    call from 678-341-5585
    Thanks for the info. I have been called by the 5585 number at my place of employment and I've had them send a collection letter of a debt that IS NOT ON MY CREDIT REPORT. All debts on my report I've had investigated when my wallet was stolen in 2000/2001. I owe no one a dime and my credit report is rediculously low because I do not use credit cards or loans or anything. I do without what I cannot buy with cash. Now I'm being bothered by Hollander Chase & Assoc under their assumed Cowen Swartz and Ass. for a debt I NEVER made. If someone used my info and stole their money, they are going to have to go to court. I have all my police reports and everything. I'm ready. Why didn't this come up in 2000/2001 when I cancelled the card and never took out another credit card again? Something really stinks in this collection company.... BEWARE GIVEING THEM A DIME!
