- CMBAnother pre-recorded offer of lower credit card rates. If any of you don't know this IT IS A SCAM! AND DON'T GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO ANY OF THESE CALLERS. I have received numerous calls from all different numbers and area codes. On this call, I pressed 9 to speak with someone, so I could ask them to take this number off the list, and I also said I don't have credit cards, even though I do. He hung up.
When I have in the past received calls just like this, from other numbers, sometimes I have pressed the number to speak with someone. They start asking me questions and I tell them "you tell me, you called here" I won't give any information out including my name or phone number. This stumps them and when I ask what credit card they say Visa and Mastercard. I point out that these are 2 different companies and they say we work with all major credit cards and try and get me to give my numbers out. I ask them what is the name of your company and they say card services. I ask them the name of your company is card services? What is your address. They just give a city. I ask for a street address and they start on a rant we are trying to save you xx amount of $$$....blah, blah blah. I ended up telling them you are a scam operation, no legitimate company operates this way and don't call here again and I'll be reporting this call.
I've been on the DNC list for years and report violations, but it seems to do no good. In fact it's a joke. I'm getting several calls a day, more than I ever have. I've left posts about different numbers on this board as well. At least we can exchange information on these annoying harassing calls. These type of companies seem to spoof numbers or the DNC people just don't do anything. I'm probably going to purchase an airhorn for the next call, at least I'll have sense of satisfaction in blowing the hearing out of one of these low life's ears. I hope they offer sick leave and maybe they will take the time to re-evaluate their career decision. Please leave any suggestions how to stop these calls. I've tried everything. If you ask them nicely to stop, don't answer, hang up or tell them you know it's a scam or threaten to report the call, it still continues. I've had it!- Caller: out of area or card services
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Mad In AtlantaThe caller ID stated, RC Trucking. As a truck driver I was thinking it was trucking company.
I pressed 9 to speak to someone. I said why does the number state RC Trucking on the Caller ID. She said I do not know. She said would you like to lower your credit card increase rate. I said No, and I do not, and she hung up on me.- Caller: "RC Trucking"
- george| 1 replyI received a call from a friend who uses Skype. You can call from PC to PC free using Skype. If you want to call a real phone number you pay a fee and use what they call "Skype Out". 678-365-0322 appeared on my caller ID when my friend called me using Skype Out. This means Skype owns the number and is using it as a trunk line. So some of the calls everyone is getting could be from a called using Skype from their PC and there is no way to track the number back to them. I have worked in the telecommunications industry for 25 years so I think I have an idea what I am talking about.
- J replies to georgeThis sounds right to me.
- TaraReceived call 11:37am from number 678-365-0322 and caller id also said RC Trucking. I pressed 9 to speak to a person and then was disconnected. I am now worried after reading these blogs that by pressing 9 that I may have consented to something. Worried.
- Caller: RC Trucking
- NPThis person called me and told me that I was going to jail because I owed money for a payday loan...But I haven't taken out a payday loan. He called my job and my cell phone, when I asked how much was the loan he couldn't tell me. Has anyone had this same experience?
- Caller: Some "law office"
- Call type: Debt collector
- DebbieThe first call was a girl stating that she was my daughters lover. I asked her how that could be when my daughter was only 11 yrs old..she then said my other daughter's name. I asked her not to prank call me and hung up the phone. The next call was from a man stating he was the callers father and he cursed and threatened my daughter and I. This continued for hours until the police arrived and answered the phone. The caller threatened the police and a report was made. That was 2 weeks ago. Last night the caller recorded my 14 yr olds cell phone answering recording and played it back to me when I picked up the house phone. This is beyond prankster. It is someone who knows us (how else could he get our house phone and a long distance cell phone in someone else's name and relate the two) After researching, we believe this is a voip/ skype caller who can use various voices ( male, female, southern, broken english) via computer. Someone should be able to trace this.
- Caller: prob skype ( listed as rc trucking)
- DavidThis happened to me as well, many times. Someone should call the police about it.
- StormShadow| 1 replyI also got a call from the same number and the man calls himself Officer John Peterson, only with a broken English spoken in an Indian/Pakistani accent. The idiot was just yelling and screaming as if he was intimidating but don't pose a threat to me. I handle it smoothly and effectively, by telling him not to call me again or I will report him to the FTC for abuse. I know for a certain that its a SCAM and these are the type of people who live with their spouses in their parents house somewhere in India or Pakistan, who don't have lives of their own and scam millions of dollars of innocent Americans who work hard to take care of their familes. Good gosh they must think we are stupid, because are just as dumb as a neanderthal cave man.
- Secret SquirrelFake Debt Collectors and Collection Tactics
If consumers did not have enough to worry about having to deal with rising credit card interest rates, late fees and over-limit fees, zombie debt, and fervent bill collectors, now we have to worry about collectors calling about fake debt.
While many legitimate collection agencies follow the FDCPA, there are some collectors out there that are only running a scam operation and will be quick to use threats and scare tactics to get you to pay up quick. Their scams turn up in mailboxes, on the internet and through the telephone every day. Some collectors pose as national banks, government agencies (FBI, CIA), or even popular celebrity stars to gain personal information. These phony collectors may threaten to repossess your house, issue a warrant for your arrest, or even garnish your pay check, all of which are against the FDCPA rules. Some of which are even laughable (for example, there is no debtor’s prison in the United States).
Fake debt scammers rely on the fear and lack of knowledge about debt collection laws within the population. They also figure that a certain percentage of their calls will be received by individuals who may be carrying debt on credit cards anyway and may be susceptible to intimidation. When collectors use misleading statements and fail to provide identification, they are breaking the law. Never pay money to a possible thief. Keep cool when you hear from collectors to avoid this collection abuse.
Many times, people who took out payday loans online in the past are most susceptible. If you took a payday loan, be aware scammers may have access to your Social Security number and other personal information, and keep your guard up against such tactics.
Ironically, real "deadbeats" probably wouldn't fall for these scammers, since they have no intention of repaying their creditors anyway. But upright citizens may doubt themselves, thinking they've forgotten to pay a bill. Many times, the sums involved tend to be fairly small, so some people may be tempted to just pay the "bill" and "get it over with."
Ways to Protect Yourself Against Debt Collection Scams
Review your credit report frequently to find inaccuracies.
Be aware of your current creditors and how much you owe.
Ask creditors for identification before you provide any information over the telephone.
Reporting Fake Debt Collectors
If you ever receive a call from anyone identifying himself as a debt collector, the law requires that the debt collector provide you with identification, and that the debt collector refrain from making misleading and threatening statements.
You can report any problems you have to your state Attorney General’s office www.naag.org and the Federal Trade Commission www.ftc.gov. Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General’s office can help you determine your rights under your state’s law.
http://www.internetautoguide.com/credit-cente ... on-tactics.html - LeaReceived a call from this number today and they just sat on the line and didnt say anything. I called back and the number rang and rang never going to voicemail. So i googled the number and saw this site. The person that said they were callin and harassing about the daughter...its ironic to me because several years ago...in like 2003, We were receiving calls like that. Threatening and even sexual in nature and they all started with "Im calling about your american express card" and we didnt have one...so we knew it was a scam and called them out on it. Then they started callin constantly, breathing heavy in the phone, threatening us, and even masturbating and moaning over the phone. I called the police and they made a report and said it was prob just someone who knew us (comforting, right? NOT). But that was years ago. But was really scary so i hope this isnt another situation like that
