NO!!!  NO!!!!!   Did you receive WRITTEN notification MAILED to you by the post office???  This is a SCAM.  You are not warned if you are to be served.  Phone calls, faxes & emails are NOT official notification.

Who is the client??  What is the name & address of her company???  How much was the original debt??? Did you pay by Western Union or a pre-paid card???

Contact your local court house - civil division - and ask them if the caller is legitimate.  You can also contact the office of your state's attorney general.  They can also be helpful.

I found a reference to the Alliance Group Collection Agency located at PO Box 234 in Lowell Michigan here:  http://www.collectionagencyservices.net/direc ... gency_6371.html
A web search brings up nothing, no BBB page, and if you search the address it comes up as a church.http://ourbigchurch.org/
Michigan has no corporation information either.  If I am not mistaken, they also would need to be registered to be a collection agency according to Michigan law.
Now read this and follow the link top better educate yourself.  Also watch the video and you will see them being trained in the tactics they used:

    http://www.insideedition.com/videos/3437-watc ... debt-collectors

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
