I checked the caller ID (what a wonderful invention), got the number--Googled it--and found this website (whcih is also a great thing). Information is power. I didn't give out any, and I learned about yet another telephone scam. Amazing how many people still fall for the ol' "something for nothing" offer.

Clint Hooper - 19 Feb 2008of course it is a scam. i got a letter in the mail once that i had an important message from a company regarding my credit card number. i laughed and called the phone number and got a lady telling me that i had a free vacation coming...and i said F off and hung up. In fact i've threatened the live people i can get with murdering their children. they won't ever send cops after me for some reason because they know they are ripping off old ladies.

Clint Hooper - 19 Feb 2008unfortunately, no. the legislation has to be passed to let them be prosecuted criminally. they have been working on it. as it is, they can just shut down their business every couple days restart it and call as a new business, but they use same numbers to call, and some get it completely blocked so you see nothing. i just leave my phone set to only ring on a recognized number. try that. then you won't get annoyed unless it is your friends/family.
